Utley suspended games 3 and 4

Mets Guy in Michigan

Torre throws down some discipline. But all this does is keep him out of Citi and saves MLB from some ugly images.

Hopefully, there isn't a game 5 and we never see his greasy butt again.

I read that Utley is appealing, but I don't know if he gets to play on appeal.

I don't find Utley to be at all appealing.

He's more or less their 25th man, isn't he?

Re: Utley suspended games 3 and 4

Except that he has decent numbers against Harvey (6-18 w/1 2B, 1 HR and only 1 K) and likely would have started tonight -- and still might depending on whether his suspension gets overturned or at least put off.

Even if he doesn't play, LA has won. The pitchers on both teams will be warned before the game, and this will take the inside of the plate away from Mets pitchers.

Of course LA won. They already won. They won no matter what happens to Utley. They won Game 2. That was the prize. The Dodgers were less than three innings away from being down 2 games to none and having to face a well rested elite pitcher in Harvey in at least the first of three elimination games for them --- before the slide happened.

Utley's NLDS suspension, if it holds, is about the best the Mets are gonna get from this, but it'll probably be just a tiny tiny reward for the events that unfolded --grossly insufficient compensation for the screwing the Mets got.

Re: Utley suspended games 3 and 4

Utley's camp claims they need more time for their case so the appeal is unlikely to be held today and unlikely to be held on Tuesday either (NY Post).
All of which means, of course, that he is eligible to play in both games and will quite likely be in the starting lineup tonight.

I'm really hoping Matt saves his plunking for another day if Utley starts today. Retaliation is not worth the warnings, suspensions, and other possible risks that could cause this series to artificially slip away from the Mets.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Given the history of this organisation in such situations, retaliation is the least likely thing to transpire.

Jeffie is probably issuing a directive as we speak, in case, you know, they lose one their bush league sponsors from the left-centre field wall.

I don't think they should retaliate tonight. Win the series. No unnecessary baserunners.

You can retaliate next year.

And by retaliation I mean punching the dickless coward while wearing their championship rings.

I agree, the umps are going to be all over any retaliation and no good
can come of it this series.

Re: Utley suspended games 3 and 4

I don't know what's going to happen. I'm rooting for full and unambiguous victory at the baseball thing. Great athletes overwhelmed by their outrage throwing baseballs at each other feels appealing in the short term but is, in fact, a terrible thing that is less satisfying in the end than it promises to be.

By the way, could you imagine if Lucas Duda lost control? If, like, he was as introverted and socially awkward as we all seem to think he is, but he had one friend on the team — a little guy who made him feel comfortable, played checkers with him and helped him shop for suits, took him to parties but was happy to take him home early if Lucas got uncomfortable, and they'd just play X-Box games and drink a few beers. And then that guy got spiked right in front of Duda and he was rolling around in pain. And then a switch went off in Lucas's head? Could you imagine?

Seven guys would not be able to hold him back. And I mean Cespedes on the right and Recker on the left (assuming, in this scenario, that Recker is active) and five other big dudes — Syndergaard and Harvey going for the legs, and Familia wrapped around the neck and still others struggling to get in there but hit by Lucas' swinging elbows. It'd be terrifying. On one hand, you'd be covering your children's eyes and looking for the remote; on the other, you would not be able to turn away.

That said, a statement of solidarity would be nice. If they all wore a #11 patch in their sleeves, or wrote "R" in eyeblack under their left eyes & "T" under their right eyes, that would kind of impressive.

snorted coke and started a brawl that would've gotten key players suspended/ejected.

I want to be up 17-0 in the seventh and see the camera pan through the
Dodger dugout and they all have the look on their faces that say, "good
god, what the hell did we wake up in these guys!"

Maybe they're saying that Utley should have an electric chair in his basement, to tinker with during the offseason.

According to ESPN, MLB offered to downgrade to one game but Utley refused. Hearing now set after NLDS. Of course, he'll retire after the Mets plunk the shit out of him and send him home with a loss tonight.

So if the Dodgers are eliminated before the hearing, and the suspension is upheld, will it still be two days? That would be bullshit; two days in the playoffs and in the regular season are completely different things.

I started the beginning of that post, and expected it to read, "According to ESPN, yes, those are, in fact, two happy steaming piles of poo."

Call me un-Metly, but I find it a little unsettling to see somebody encouraging their daughter to go a-trolling.

Seriously, if he takes the field tonight, after somebody singles the Mets should use Bartolo Colon as a pinch runner.

they're poop emoji, if we're being technical.

The Pile of Poo emoji was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010.

(I had the approved poop emoji here, but it broke the forum so i deleted it)

The one on the sign specifically is Apple's version.
