THE SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR, 2015

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The Schaefer Mets Player of the Year for 2015 is first-time winner JACOB deGROM. This race was, technically, still up in the air going into the final weekend series against Washington, where deGrom had exactly a six-point lead over Matt Harvey. Had Harvey earned a perfect 6, and deGrom a zero, we would have had a tie in both the Player and Pitcher of the Year categories. Jacob finished with 97.08 points.

PREVIOUS WINNERS:
2005 - David Wright, 140.17 points*; 2006 - David Wright, 121.16; 2007 - David Wright, 124.77; 2008 - Johan Santana, 121.37; 2009 - David Wright, 91.72; 2010 - David Wright, 117.56; 2011 - José Reyes, 104.96; 2012 - David Wright, 113.06; 2013 - Daniel Murphy, 107.30; Lucas Duda, 95.62.

* Totals were higher in 2005 because of a rule specifying that ten points were to be awarded for each game.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR
The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Year is, obviously, JACOB deGROM. This is his first win in this category.

PREVIOUS WINNERS:
2005 - Pedro Martinez, 120.68 points*; 2006 - Tom Glavine, 80.26; 2007 - Tom Glavine, 75.97; 2008 - Johan Santana, 121.37; 2009 - Johan Santana, 84.61; 2010 - Johan Santana, 90.42; 2011 - R.A. Dickey, 69.40; 2012 - R.A. Dickey, 110.12; 2013 - Matt Harvey, 86.68; 2014 - Bartolo Colon, 74.77.

* Totals were higher in 2005 because of a rule specifying that ten points were to be awarded for each game.

RELIEF PITCHER OF THE YEAR
The Mets Relief Pitcher of the Year is yet another first-time winner, JEURYS FAMILIA, who had finished in second place last year, by 2.48 points, to Carlos Torres. Familia very nearly ran the table in 2015, winning Relief Pitcher of the Month in April, May, June, July, and August, and he led the September voting until being passed on the very last day of the month by Addison Reed. Familia, who tied a club record with 43 saves, totaled 35.85 points, all out of the bullpen. Runners up were Carlos Torres (20.25 points), Hansel Robles (17.61), Sean Gilmartin (16.78), Alex Torres (12.05), Tyler Clippard (10.86) and Eric Goeddel (10.52).

PREVIOUS WINNERS:
2006 - Billy Wagner, 40.39 points; 2007 - Aaron Heilman, 34.86; 2008 - Aaron Heilman, 34.50; 2009 - Francisco Rodriguez, 38.58; 2010 - Hisanori Takahashi 28.69; 2011 - Pedro Beato, 25.93; 2012 - Bobby Parnell, 29.01; 2013 - LaTroy Hawkins, 32.30; 2014 - Carlos Torres, 35.75.

BENCH PLAYER OF THE YEAR
The Bench Player of the Year is MICHAEL CUDDYER. Michael earned 3.49 points in games in which he did not start, ahead of last year's winner Eric Campbell (3.39 points), Juan Uribe (3.30), Juan Lagares (3.08) and Kirk Nieuwenhuis (2.58). Cuddyer won with the fewest points ever for a Bench Player of the Year.

PREVIOUS WINNERS:
2006 - Julio Franco, 7.16 points; 2007 - Marlon Anderson, 10.39; 2008 - Damion Easley, 5.06; 2009 - Fernando Tatis, 8.37; 2010 - Chris Carter, 9.28; 2011 - Scott Hairston, 8.77; 2012 - Jordany Valdespin, 13.84; 2013 - Jordany Valdespin, 8.70; 2014 - Eric Campbell, 5.89.

The only Mets player who did not earn any Schaefer points in 2015 was Akeel Morris.

Poor Curtis Granderson, hitter of the year, gets no award to take home.

Re: SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR, 2015

Please remind me, do October points get folded into September?

Love the varieties of Familia 2015.

Re: SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR, 2015

No, October points go towards the Player of the Year, but don't factor into any Player of the Month awards.

Same is true for March, when there are regular season games in that month.

Here are the September results, in case you missed them: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=23430

Re: SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR, 2015

I'm just wondering: Would Familia's sweep have been complete had October games counted toward September?

Re: SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR, 2015

And the answer is: yes. In September, Reed had 5.38 points and Familia had 5.08. In October, Reed had 0.26 and Familia 1.18. So if September and October had been combined, Familia would have won 6.26 to 5.64.

Bartolo won pitcher of the month 4 times but was only #3 on the year.

Amazin', right? And he wasn't even hurt during those other months. He was just playing really badly and accumulating no pointage.

He won it three times in 2015. Once in 2014.

(And once each this year for Harvey, deGrom, and Syndergaaard.)

Magnifique job on the cards and the tallying. DeGrom 1970 is ideal. Thank you for 11 seasons of this.

Way to go, Jakey!

Naked photos of the stars!lolol. Classic.

OE: I see I crapped out there at the end. Sorry about that. I noticed that if I don't vote right after the game I never get back to vote. I could have made a difference! Fammy should have had a clean sweep!

That will be a problem going forward. Starting next year it will no longer be possible to vote right after the game. Watch for further details after the World Series.
