He said he noticed a difference during the postseason starts in terms of the pressure and expectations being ratcheted up a notch. "The physical toll really hasn't bothered me at all, but I think that the mental side of it and all the energy you burn leading up to the game does have a little bit of effect," Arrieta said at his press conference. "But having a couple of these under my belt now, I'm pretty confident going in that I'll be able to handle that pretty well." The 23-year-old Syndergaard made one start and one relief appearance in the NL Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and said the experience taught him not to change his approach. "I think the anticipation before was thinking that the game was going to be completely different, but in reality it's still the same game," Syndergaard said in his press conference. "You're still 60 feet, 6 inches away. The only thing that's really different is the crowd's a little bit louder." Manager Terry Collins said the rookie also will start Game 6 if the series goes that far. WALK-OFFS: 1. Mets RF Curtis Granderson notched two RBIs in Game 1 and has recorded seven this postseason. 2. Chicago LF Kyle Schwarber homered in Game 1 and is 8-for-17 with four blasts and six RBIs in the playoffs. 3. Apparently Jimmy Kimmel is throwing out the first ball tonight. I have no idea why. He is a Brooklyn native (though raised largely in Las Vegas) and, according to at least one article, claims to be a MLBS although we know that such claims are often made for timing and trending purposes so maybe that's true and maybe it isn't.

Probably legit. From a 2012 news story about Kimmel's show doing a special week of tapings in Brooklyn: He says some of his fondest memories as a youth are “running around until it got dark with the kids in the neighborhood” and hanging out by a nearby convenience store and trading baseball cards. “I remember one of the great joys of my life was getting a Mets team card,” he said. “It was rare to get a Mets team card, and I traded it for like a 150 other Mets cards.”

And conveniently he's in town now to do a week of tapings in Brooklyn so the timing works out well all around. Still gotta wonder how much of a current NYM fan he while hanging around with his LA buddies four decades removed from living in NYC, but it's too trivial an issue to spend any time stewing over.

if Tejada was healthy I would advocate our best infield right now is Murphy-Flores-Tejada-Wright, because Duds is just terrible at the moment.

Right now there is a huge hole in the line up wherever our first baseman is in the order. I think Collins should consider giving Kelly Johnson a start at second and move Murphy to first. Or just put Johnson at first if they prefer not to move Murphy.

I watched most of this game in a Boston bar where one TV had the NLCS and the rest (and the surround sound audio) played the Patriots game. Even football commentary is better than Ripken.

I liked Terry's strategy (mostly) a lot more in this game. I probably would have stuck with Niese for the 7th, with two lefties (Coghlan and Montero) coming up that inning. The Murphy homer was just fantastic. After he hooked the ball foul a couple of pitches earlier I figured he missed his chance there. Glad he took the curtain call too. Granderson's catch got not just the great reaction at the time but then it was quite fun as the various other seating sections that could see the reply started cheering as they saw just where he caught it (well above the orange line). Some interesting musical choices at the park. The "Piano Man" singalong persists, but a couple of innings earlier, they played "Livin' on a Prayer" which got a much better reaction. There was also - yes, believe it or not - a playing of "Who Let the Dogs Out." In a much more positive development, after "New York Groove" was played right after the final out, then the PA played "Meet the Mets," with the full original lyrics (butcher, baker, people on streets, et al.) which was a big singalong for the second straight night as fans exited. Well done, Mets AV team. Being up 2-0 and still having another of our aces ready for game 3 is just incredible. Let's Go Mets!

I think Terry saw the game in front of him and played it as he saw fit. Very, very happy that he got Reed and Clippard in for an inning apiece so they didn't get too stale. And even happier that they performed. Even Jon Niese worked out, getting Rizzo in a critical spot. It's kind of scary that it's all working right now. To beat Arietta and go up 2-0 with DeGrom in game three versus Hendricks, a generic pitcher at best, gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Yes, walking out to "the butcher and the baker and the people on the streets.." was cool. fwiw, Mets fans shouting Lets Go Mets in the stairwells at Citi is A LOT louder than the ramps at Shea. The music/scoreboard operators still don't realize starting the '2 strike' clap stuff seconds after the last pitch is WAY too early, but otherwise I applaud the creativity and wish they'd do this sorta stuff all season long. Also amusing: They played the Beatles birthday song after Cespedes' hit. (Cause you know, it was his birthday!)

Great night at the park in section 426 with Little Solo. Not super cold because the wind wasn't so bad where we were plus we were prepared for the elements. Sheff had a disgusted "it's too cold for this shit" look on his face, Pedro is God and Dusty God bless him might not be much of a manager but the man is styling' - Musical selections were cool. I feel like that's a play early in the season he rushes to get at second and ends up getting no one. Saturday the lines in CF were really short after the game started. Shake Shack was probably only a 15 minute wait (I got Tacos in like..4 minutes) Promenade was more busy last night though. Probably just that the fan-food ratio is not as good. I got Nachos in a helmet since that was the shortest line and I didn't bring in the planned sandwich.

It was cold but if you were dressed for it, it was fine. I saw zero lines at the ice cream stands. Every concession stand/store was SOLD OUT of any type of ski hat. They said they sold out on Saturday night. Very cool how at a game like that in the midst of a nice post-season run, that everyone is in a great mood. I didnt even see Cubs fans getting razzed that badly and if they were, it was the good-natured kind. Fun to be a Mets fan in this City again.

I just remembered, and chuckled aloud, the TBS "look-in" shot of Murphy's Bar in Chicago after the Cubs scored. About a dozen losers moping around. It was beautiful.
