League Championship Series Trivialities

Mets – Willets Point

Just a few fun facts I've gleaned from Twitter:

* This is the first time since the LCS started in 1969 that all 4 teams wear a blue cap.
* None of MLB's top 9 payroll teams made the LCS. BlueJays highest at 10. Cubs 13th, Royals 16th, Mets 21st. Average rank: 15th.
* The final four MLB teams have a combined 2 World Series appearances and zero championships over the past 20+ years
* World Series title droughts, in years, of the four remaining playoff teams: 22, 29, 30, 107.

And... if the Mets get past the Cubs, we'll have the first-ever World Series between two expansion teams.

Three of North America's top five largest cities are represented. Then there's Kansas City.

If you're counting World Series wins, don't forget the Marlins also have two.

I'm guessing the payroll ranking of all or most of those teams is a little off, and will be adjusted upwards once the final tally is made.
