I Look at It This Way

The first win redeems the foggy Art Howe era. The second win clears the books on Willie the Winner. Win game three and the Age of Jerry Manuel never happened.

A fourth win and the accompanying championship would be, of course, all about Terry, securing his legend. His quirky, quirky legend.

Re: I Look at It This Way

I just mean, I ain't sittin' around thinking about Howe, Willie, and
Manuel a half hour before Game One of the Mets in the World Series.

That's good, but I haven't gone an hour without thinking about them in.... gosh, it's been years.

Poor, poor, unredeemed Art Howe.

Well, at least they battled.

Jerry is arguable. Willie, maybe. But if Art Howe requires redemption, it ain't this crew's job.

Re: I Look at It This Way

Well, I'm guessing it's symbolic. Art's already been demonized by Philip Seymour Hoffman's portrayal in Moneyball. That's beyond our power to affect.

Screw managers of the past, Terry has a game to win in the present
and if that goes well the future is even brighter. Willie Randolf, bah.

Re: I Look at It This Way

Yeah, the premise of this thread doesn't make any sense to me either.

This postseason isn't about Art Howe or Wes Westrum or Steve Chilcott.

It's about, in no particular order:
* The players getting the rare and special experience of being on a prolonged championship run.
* We, the fans, experiencing everything that's wonderful and special about this month.
* Another notch in the franchise's belt. A flag to fly at Citi Field, and an eighth placard to add to the seven that already exist for 1969, 1973, 1986, 1988, 1999, 2000, and 2006.

Of course it isn't. On the other hand, it's about for you whatever you want to put on it — baseball's achievements being merely symbolic and all.

I like historical redemption, so I made something up.

Re: I Look at It This Way

I'm not without my own mental health issues, but thankfully (to me)
thinking about Art Howe every hour on the hour for years and years
is not one of them! Especially when my present team is doing some-
thing rather special.
