It won't matter after the Mets score 11 runs in the first two innings. Honestly, though, if you asked me 10 times if I would rather have Matz or Chris Young starting for my team, I'd answer "Matz" 10 times.

Syndergaard's a bad ass: Syndergaard said he didn’t intend to hit or injure anyone; rather, he just wanted to send a message. “I just didn’t want him getting too comfortable,” Syndergaard said. “If they have a problem with me throwing inside, they can meet me 60 feet, 6 inches away.” I like Matz. The Royals won't know much about him. I think Terry will have a quick hook with Colon ready if things even start to go bad.

Syndergaard's purpose pitch was nice and all, but frankly, he should have done it more. Throw up and in until you get warned. Whether it rattles these guys or just gets them pissed, it gets them focused on something other than timing, and it backs them off the plate. Up and in, all day, if you're Matz.

I would have tried to let Colon pitch the seventh and the eighth and then to Familia. Don't burn through pitchers so quickly in a close game.

Agree with leaving in Colon. I wouldn't want anyone pitching in relief to pitch to the same guy twice but for the love of God, he's a starter. Let him go through the line-up once.

Lots of goats tonight. For starters the offense, outside of Conforto, had 4 singles all night and that includes the two at the tail end. And all that does is just make the margin for error too small for comfort.

Just don't pull pitchers when they're effective, because, somehow, the inning says so. Ride your horses as long as you can. FFS, if the Mets tie it, all they have is Gilmartin, and if they survive a few innings with him, but don't score, they have to go to deGrom or somebody.

I actually had to use the text-alert-to-security feature in the ballpark because idiots in my section were thisclose to felonious assault on Royals fans sitting 3 rows behind. The Royals fans were cheering like douchebags, but still. We're better than the Dodgers in every possible way, including that we're not attempting to murder visiting fans. Did Familia's totally unnecessary appearance last night make a difference? I kind of wonder if it did. I know Daniel and Wilmer are fan favorites and I have advocated for them in the past but I couldn't help but wonder what things would be like with better defensive middle infielders. Maybe that's unfair given my strange viewing angle of the game, and some of those balls past them would have been past good fielders regardless.
