Alderson did not eat breakfast this morning and felt hot under the television lights affixed over the podium in the room, it was later explained. He wore his jacket during the entire nearly hour-long session in a warm room. He is feeling OK now and was being looked at by the Mets' training staff. It was really embarrassing when DePodesta jumped up to the podium and shouted, "At last! The general managership is MINE! Bow before me, FOOLS! It's my pennant NOW!!!! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! Oh... is he coming to... ? He's OK? Good, then. Never mind."

It could very well be dehydration. Something like this happened to me once a few years ago (although not at a press conference!) and I got everything checked out and I was fine. I was just told not to let myself get dehydrated. The thing is, sometimes you don't realize you're dehydrated until you find yourself lying on the floor with people peering down at you. (A good clue to dehydration is dark-colored urine, but unless you've peed recently, you're not likely to know the color of the fluid that's in your bladder.)

So what did we learn before and after the medical emergency? Is the staff (apart from perhaps Geren) expected to return? Is Laggy going in for surgery? What do we know about Cespedes' health? Is he on the back nine at Cherry Creek as we speak (or type)? How pissed were they at Wally for the 51s' collapse down the stretch?

Lagares getting evaulated, surgery not expected. Didn't hear anything on Cespedes but I didn't think either of his injuries were serious ones. Not sure if they mentioned Wally. Lots of stuff about "I don't see us trading our pitchers", "Payroll will probably start a little bit higher" and what not. You know, the public stuff GMs say that mostly means nothing.

Thanks, for my part. Am I the only person who draws a small inference in the back of his head that Sandy Alderson has collapsed again each and every time this thread jumps to the top, and he has some sort of chronic collapsing condition?

Not sure if it's related to the fainting episode during the Terry press conference, but the NY Post is reporting that [u:14oux8d2]Sandy is about to undergo 8-to-12 weeks of chemotherapy for a "treatable" form of cancer[/u:14oux8d2] according to a club announcement this morning. Alderson will continue in his duties as GM, though he will miss next week’s Winter Meetings. This comes on the heels of him skipping last month's GM meeting after briefly collapsing following a Citi Field press conference.

Hopefully it's as treatable as they say, and he'll be complication free. 8-12 weeks of chemo can be hell depending on what they're doing.

NYDN: Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday he had surgery "a week ago Wednesday" as part of his treatment for cancer, and that the procedure was "fantastically successful" and had been planned since December when Alderson and the Mets announced his diagnosis with the disease. Pretty sure Trump copied Alderson. Or don't you remember Sandy's mid-July statement to the press last year? We're gonna have the best bench. The bench is going to be so full there won't be anyplace to sit. You'll be tired of how much depth we're gonna have, folks. Next thing you knew, he gets Johnson and Uribe and, true to his word, as you can tell this year, the Mets got sick of how much depth they had.
