I am Michael Cuddyer

Only needs three more dingers for 200 in his career!

Ceetar Nov 06 2015 01:14 PM Re: Michael Cuddyer |
once a player has a somewhat streaky and ineffective season around an injury, he's basically done for his career. clearly release him.

Lefty Specialist Nov 06 2015 01:23 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
Once a player has that much invested in him, he's impossible to move and you hope you can at least wring minimal production out of him. I expect that they will do just that, occasionally spelling Duda at first, and Conforto and Grandy in the outfield.

Benjamin Grimm Nov 06 2015 01:25 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
Yes, he'll be an expensive reserve player. I don't think he'll earn his salary, but I think he'll be a good guy to have on the bench and to spell Duda at first from time to time.

Mo Vaughn incarnate.

Ceetar Nov 06 2015 01:30 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
Juan Uribe, Kelly Johnson, Juan Lagares, and Wilmer Flores all had a lower OBP. (Also Plawecki and Nieuwenhuis and Ceciliani and Muno and Recker)

Michael Cuddyer is a lot like an AM Crunchwrap. He's better than horrible.

d'Kong76 Nov 06 2015 01:55 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
Effective 3:00 pm today; Coach Cuddy is Camera Cuddy.

Hire him as a coach.

Cuddyer in 2015: $8,500,000 Uribe in 2015: ~$2,600,000 (40% of $6.5M total salary) Johnson in 2015: ~$600,000 (40% of $1.5M total salary) Lagares in 2015: $528,696 Flores in 2015: $513,543 I'm not sure what the point of comparing Cuddyer's OBP to these (much lower paid) bench players is...unless it's to illustrate that the Mets are overpaying him to produce slightly more than non-everyday players.

I'm not really sure I care what they're making. I care how about how much they contribute to winning, and Cuddyer, in his worst year in a long time, and marred by injury, was better than various other players last year, 2 of who, right now, might be 2016 starters. (and were for most of last year) Safe money's on Cuddyer to contribute more, at least offensively, to the offense in 2016.

From what I can gather, ceetar assigns absolutely no value to the amount of money a player makes in assessing that player's value to a team.

So since Lorenzo Cain stole a base in the World Series, do the Royals get him for free?

Zvon Nov 06 2015 07:39 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
I just read that Coach Cuddy had some kind of core injury that he was nursing this season. Shit, I can't find it now to link.

He battled.

He battled at trying not to suck. And he lost.

"Core" is abdomen, hip or pelvic, I think.
|
Rockin' Doc Nov 06 2015 08:44 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
That explains a lot. I thought Cuddyer was pretty rotten to the core this season.
|
Centerfield Nov 06 2015 08:58 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
Maybe that was the issue and he has a bounceback year.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Nov 06 2015 09:15 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
A healthy Cuddyer can contribute. A lot better as a DH, mind you, but he'll contribute.
|
MFS62 Nov 06 2015 09:32 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
He was at one (maybe more?) of the postgame World Series press conferences, along with Terry and Curtis.

SNY hypothesizes that the core injury was a hernia.
|
Rockin' Doc Nov 06 2015 09:58 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
I truly wanted Cuddyer to do well, but he had a injury riddled and very disappointing season. Hopefully, he wil be healthy and have a much better season. He could be very helpful as a right handed pinch hitter, DH in AL cities, spelling Duda against tough lefties, and 4th or 5th outfielder.

I'm fine with Cuddyer being a bench player, team spokesperson, club-

I'm not the one assessing him. I just am capable or reading a stat sheet and trusting a LONG history of being very good when not injured. Conforto had a good month and 2 bad ones and you're all ready to hand him the job, no questions asked. But then many of you criticized me when I told you Duda was a very good player, something he's been for a long time now. So what do you know? You can joke all you want about me, your opinions based on nothing won't sway mine based on statistics..

Ceetar Nov 07 2015 11:33 AM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |

he was 95% of an average major league hitter last season. I bet he's at least 12% better than average next season. also, btw, it doesn't matter if the runs are scored by the left fielder or the shortstop, as long as they're scored. Even if you have above average offense for a shortstop, it might not be enough to score more runs than the other team.

Edgy MD Nov 07 2015 03:14 PM Re: I am Michael Cuddyer |
I think we saw from the number of plate appearances Cuddyer got in the World Series that he's in a show-me situation. If he gets a lot of starts, it probably means he's earned them, or injuries have left them without better options.

Would have kept 3rd base under control of Norfolk/Chesapeake Virginians as well.

It's crazy. I know it doesn't matter a lick when it comes to performance but it's crazy how old he looks.
