Jannis

Getting a lot of play in recent weeks has been Mets prospect Mickey Jannis. Picked up mid-season after several years in the independent leagues, he did only so-so with St. Lucie and Binghamton, but now that he's brought his knuckler to the Arizona Fall League, he's gotten some attention, baseball writers having little else to write about this time of year.

He doesn't have the lofty strikeout/walk numbers that R.A. Dickey forced the Mets' hands with, but he sure keeps his hit count low and his ERA has been hanging down there too. He's mostly talked about as a relief option, but that may be a product of the Mets' packed rotation, as a knuckleballer in the pen is rarely something a manager pursues actively.

Anyhow, they may have to make a decision on him soon, because I think he's eligible for the Rule 5 Draft if they don't add him to the roster.

Let's call Toronto. Tell them we have another one.

Well, Chandler will be happy she's in Arizona.

Well, okay, he's got the knuckler and the beard. But somehow, he strikes me as the kind of guy who-- if pressed-- might name his bats after, like, Will Ferrell movies, not mythical swords.

"And, uh, this one is called "Land of the Lost." And this one is... "Semi-Pro" ... Keep in mind that these aren't my game bats."
