The Nets Won a Game ..

..last night.
This is going to be a short thread because I don't think I'll have an opportunity to say that many times this year.
Or in the next few years.
Sigh.

They did it again 90-88 over Atlanta ( a decent team).

Re: The Nets Won a Game ..

They held on last night to win their sixth game of the season.
Thad Young is turning into a nice player, probably their best all around power forward since Buck Williams.
And they've been playing some tough teams tough, only to lose late. There's some (not a lot) talent there.
They could be interesting when all the new people begin to learn each others' moves.

Oy vey!
They even messed up a giveaway.

It reminds me of when the Mets celebrated Mike Jacobs on Jewish Heritage Night and Mike isn't Jewish.

Re: The Nets Won a Game ..

The Nets fired their coach Lionel Hollins and replaced him with one of his assistants.
They "reassigned" GM Billy King, who has destroyed two franchises (Philadelphia and now the Nets) with bad trades and signings terrible player decisions. In a prior life, he was the person who convinced Napoleon to invade Russia. I hope the team's Russian owner reassigns King to the Gulag, so he can never be allowed to even view another basketball game again. (The incompetent fucker)

Re: The Nets Won a Game ..

I thought that rich Russian dude sold the team. Guess no one wanted it.
Who would. Maybe they can move to Staten Island as a new gimmick.

(hee hee)

Gee, a fan of a team that hasn't gotten to the NBA finals in this century making fun of a team that has - twice.

Both teams have made mistakes in their transaction histories. You must be too young to remember Charlie Tyra, Paul Hogue, Darrell Imhoff and Dean Meminger. But I know you remember Frederic Weis.

Zing! Walk down Fifth Avenue and ask 25 people what years the Nets made
the finals. Some may not even know what Nets are!

Of course I remember Dean, Frederick is erased from my vocabulary.

Re: The Nets Won a Game ..

This is getting weirder.
King is going to help the Nets find his successor?

The guy can't even do a good job picking his nose.
Please. Someone. Lock him in solitary confinement until the successor is chosen.

Despite missing their starting point guard due to injury, the Nets won their tenth game tonight.

Re: The Nets Won a Game ..

The Nets hired Sean Marks away from the Spurs to be their new General Manager.
I'm glad they got someone from a team with a spectacular track record of organizational professionalism. The guy he replaced had been a grease fire at his last spot, and still was when he got to the Nets.
Marks is in a tough situation to put it mildly. He has one first round pick for the next few years, and the Celtics have the option of swapping for it if it is better than theirs. He has only two decent ballplayers, and those must be kept as building blocks. He'll need a bunch of good breaks in the draft with purchased and second round picks to do anything meaningful for a while. The salary cap going up next year will help a bit.
Good luck, Guy.
You'll need it.

The new regime is off to a good start. They won tonight, bringing their record to a munificent 15-40.

Re: The Nets Won a Game ..

They released/ waived/ bought out the contract of Joe Johnson.
He was the best "last shot" player of his generation (see the chart in the linked article).

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nets-waive ... --nba.html

Now they're going to have to find someone to give them those clutch baskets.

Thanks for the memories, Joe.

Re: The Nets Won a Game ..

A couple of general purpose basketball questions/statements that I'll stick here (because this thread often gets lonely) on occasion of me actually watching about ten minutes of a basketball game last night.

Statment: Steph Curry = Ridiculous.
I realize that this is hardly original as it's about the only thing the hoops world is talking about this year, but it's something else to see him in action. Coming down the court down by a point or two in OT with mere seconds left and you'd be surprised if he DIDN'T swish the game winning shot even though his jumper was from about halfway between the 3-point arc and center-court. And this isn't even talking about how his Warriors tied up the game at the end of regulation.

Question: What's the deal with the ball getting moved the length of the court simply because you call a time-out?
Team gets ready to take the ball out under the opponents basket after the opponent scores. But they call a T-O instead and suddenly this allows them, once the (interminable) time-out is over, to inbound the ball from the complete opposite end!?!?!! Hell, if anything I'd tend to disadvantage a team if they wanted to call time, but if that's not an option I certainly wouldn't reward them.
I guess mainly I don't understand the logic behind this.

Re: The Nets Won a Game ..

Curry might be the best player in the game right now, and maybe the best guard since Oscar Robinson. (There was some guy who played in Chicago, but Curry is a much better shooter).

OE: Hmmmm, somebody thinks he's not that good. Could it be because he coached that "some guy"?
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/02/phil-ja ... -ballistic

I hadn't noticed that rule change. I thought the ball was still moved to the front court near mid court. I rarely get to see a full game because I work nights and only watch highlights when I get home.

Re: The Nets Won a Game ..

They didn't play their two best players (hey! Its relative), Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young, during the last few games, and finished the season 21-61.
Well, at least they won more than 17 games.
