Edgy MD Dec 02 2015 11:40 AM |
Ken Rosenthal reporting that Bob Geren is leaving his role as Mets bench coach to work in the same capacity for Dave Roberts and the Dodgers.

I heard that Wally will be the bench coach on the days when the Mets face RH starters and Teufel when they see a left-hander.

What the hell? A 3,000-mile lateral move? Is this a weather thing?

This baseball lifer wants to retire in summy weather.

Dave Roberts will be on the hot seat in LA, so Geren will be the reliable backup in case anything goes sideways.

Reportedly having elderly parents and in-laws in southern California was a major factor in deciding to move back to the west coast. I can't fault anyone for moving to be near family.

The choice certainly wasn't based on working for a better team.

And when you've got a chance to be bench coach to Yasiel Puig, I mean who wouldn't jump on it!
|
Benjamin Grimm Dec 05 2015 09:37 AM Re: Geren Transferrin' |
I read that he was going to the West Coast because of "family matters." Which means that he's not trying to get closer to Yasiel Puig, but to Steve Urkel.

I imagine that Terry's got enough juice to get the guy he wants, and a long enough track record in multiple organizations to know who he wants, including knowing which graduates of the Mets developmental system are sharp-minded forward thinkers and which are deadwood place holders.

Dick Scott, the famous gay underwear designer?

Benjamin Grimm Dec 16 2015 02:30 PM Re: Geren Transferrin' |
I've never heard of him! I just Googled "Dick Scott" and the first hits are for a Chrysler dealer in Plymouth, Michigan.

Edgy MD Dec 16 2015 02:31 PM Re: Geren Transferrin' |
Interesting choice. He succeeded Terry as minor league field coordinator, and stayed in the pipeline as director of player development. So he knows the generation of players coming up that follows the ones Terry worked with.

This profile compares Scott's life to Groundhog Day, and then curiously seems to think he works for the Blue Jays.
