Ottoneu 2016

just thought I'd start up a new thread for the next season, as we're basically all done with the last one, having concluded salary arbitrations.

as has been mentioned on the otto board, my one friend the philly phan, hungrypup, is dropping out. it seems he can't pay enough attention to the league during the week to remain competitive (though it was mostly his drafting and keeping that sunk him), and is dropping out.

I have another friend (a mets fan in easton assassins) whose uncle (not sure if he's a mets fan) is interested in joining.

any objections? any other takers? any other dirty no-good dropouts?

I'm looking forward to all the interesting keeper decisions that come down the road. I'm also still trying to figure out why anyone would've put arbitration dollars on ricky weeks. honestly.... I.. just don't get it.

Re: Ottoneu 2016

If we need another owner, I say bring him aboard!

Not for nothing, I accidentally gave an arb raise to Jenrry Mejia last month. I didn't mean to, but didn't see a way to correct the error once completed (granted, I didn't look horribly hard). Maybe the same thing happened to Weeks.

Re: Ottoneu 2016

once you award a dollar, as long as the deadline hasn't passed, you just change the $1 to a $0 on the respective team page, and reassign your dollar as you please.

Re: Ottoneu 2016

Poop. Like I said, I didn't look that hard...I actually may not have noticed until after the deadline had passed.

It was only a dollar.

Re: Ottoneu 2016

oops. it was jj hardy, not rickie weeks.

a dollar on mejia is probably better placed than a dollar on hardy. though the hardy dollar was mostly done to avoid actually penalizing the receiving team, I'm guessing.

oops, yeah, I got the uncle's email address and then promptly forgot to compose and send the invite email.

We really need to have this done before the keeper deadline. Do we need to find a different replacement owner?

The Easton assassins owner referred someone, who initially responded to my email but hasn't responded to my last two.

If he doesn't get back to me by early next week he can lose his claim to you as long as you can make the Wednesday March 23rd at 8:30 PM draft time? It'll be a couple of hours to draft from there.

I think I might set a hard end time for the draft, sometimes a team or two stays up late putting in $1 claims on scrubs/prospects to round out their team when everyone else is asleep. Seems like we should try to limit that a little bit.

Re: Ottoneu 2016

For one, it rewards anyone dedicated, we, stoopid, enough to stay up till the end of the draft for the slim pickins that remain. And two, there are a bunch of teams in desperate need of roster overhauls that could benefit from such dreg-rankings. And three, who's to say we'd be all the way down to those players of such inconsequence that most of the league has no interest in trying to obtain them by the time the time limit kicked in? And finally, if the players are of such trivial nature than it shouldn't matter if the harder working owners get them, should it?

The only real argument for it is that someone willing to foolishly put more time into their team might be at as light competitive advantage. But isn't that kindof the point...?

Re: Ottoneu 2016

I guess. My objection I suppose is a matter of taste. I just find bidding guys up with seconds to decide is where the fun is, coming in afterward and leisurely scooping up the dregs unopposed, eh.

i admit this somewhat comes from a laziness standpoint, but my thought was that the draft is already 2-3 hours long which is pushing the bounds for 'casual competitiveness' imo.

But on the other end of it, I'm not sure there is necessarily a competitive advantage to grabbing a bunch of $1 gambles. You probably end up committing to players who probably suck longer, have less room for spring pickups, and do have to pay to cut these scrubs later. It's a lot like the Rule 5 draft.

We've got our 12th owner, I just have to figure out how to add him via the UI which is just oh so user friendly. I either have to wait for a database propagation or he needs to link his fangraphs account and pay but he can't do that until he has a team? it's confusing. i'm looking into it.

Re: Ottoneu 2016

I was under the impression that the best bargain pickups don't materialize until after the season starts anyway, but I could be wrong about that.

I got a warning today that my registration was about to expire, and I'm thinking I might not be the only one. So you all might want to check to make sure your registration doesn't expire before draft day and before you even realize it.

Yes I believe this is how we accidentally got two Snukes or something last year during the draft.

Wednesday night. be prompt.

I'll leave the auction 'active' all night even after people drop off, but will close it as soon as I get to a computer in the morning.

I think, if you want, you can start tossing guys onto your watchlist for nomination purposes if you click into the draft room. I can't guarantee the software will save it between now and then if you logout of ottoneu, but maybe.

I'll be there. It might not receive my full attention for as long as my daughter chooses to remain awake, but I have nine unfilled spots and not a whole lot of money to spend so I can probably afford to wait on the bidding.

Re: Ottoneu 2016

Tryna cram for this thing but can't figure out Fangraphs for the life of me.

I need the part where they tell me how much to bid on each guy, and whether he's hurt or won't play, and I could give a flying fuck for the rest of it. Where is that?

TransMonk

Re: Ottoneu 2016

I've never seen where Fangraphs gives potential bid amounts. They do give a FPTS score, which I assume is a relative value, but doesn't really translate to how we score or what our budget is.

I wish they would show me which players have retired because their club won't let their home-schooled kid hang out with the team all season.

o far this early season, my team is struggling a bit. there's just no power, and my pitching has been uncharacteristically spotty as well.

i took to the strategy of sitting my expensive slumpers, only to see miggy smack two homers two nights ago, and mccutch knock in three of his own last night.

of course.

but it's early, so far, and my guys should start to get back to the backs of their baseball cards.

or else there's a fire-sale coming!

Shelby Miller and Matt Harvey are letting me down BIG TIME so far.

In similar conditions, only my hitting's not as good. Thanks for keeping me (and RA Dickey) out of the basement in pitching categories. Eovaldi was so awful in his first starts he didn't make my 'ro when he finally had a good one.

Gonna be that kind of season for me.

My two highest paid pitchers (Harvey and Shelby Miller) are both now riding the pine. These guys represent 14.5% of my total payroll and are pitching like total dog doo.

OE: And my third highest paid pitcher (Wheeler) hasn't pitched in a meaningful game in 20 months.

I'm going for GM of the year if you couldn't tell.

Is there division format in Ottoneu? I wouldn't be opposed to that.

I've been really bad with focusing on baseball, particularly fantasy, this year in general.

this season is difficult - it's not even a race! muddy chickens hit big-time on all his draft picks, it seems. at least in the past, there's been two teams battling it out. or at least not so much of a gap. this year, wow...

i had been hoping to transition into being a buyer if my pitching ever straightened out, but kershaw going down and staying down has ended that fantasy. boo.
