The Annual Charity Thing

Chad Ochoseis
Dec 01 2015 11:58 AM

Well, hey, all. Yes, I know. It's Giving Tuesday. I had no idea that there was such a thing until a cranky FB friend (hint...he lives in Boston and plays a mean game of Scrabble) posted something about it. So you've been internet-bombed with all sorts of solicitations today.

Here's one more. I think everyone knows the drill...if you're in, post to this thread and name the charity of your choice. I'll randomly assign each participant a charity suggested by another participant. It's fun, it's easy, and it's not too expensive (standard donation remains at $25).

The time frame is a little tighter this year than most - I'll be without a desktop from roughly December 14 until New Year's, so I'd like to complete this by December 13.

Usual rules apply - non-political charities only, and the Wilpons are not considered a charity. I'm in, but haven't come up with a charity yet.

Happy holidays, and let the giving begin!

I am in. Once again, in deference to my nephew, I will be picking the Little Hearts organization, which raises funds and awareness for children born with congenital heart defects.

Fneph, for the record, is seven months old and doing well after his first two heart surgeries.

This is the best thing we do all year as a forum. If you haven't chosen a pet charity to enrich yet, do it NOW!

And thanks again to Chad for putting this together this year - it's a great thing you're doing.

And, here goes. I get this done, and then get in the car and drive 500 miles back to Jersey for a couple of weeks.

Wishing everyone a happy holiday season with a maximum of warmth, togetherness, and good times and a minimum of Jingle Bell Rock. Thanks to all for participating!

Would a mod be able to sticky this through the end of the year?

You filled my heart in 17 places, Coo.

The WTAP was founded after my friend Terry was killed at the World Trade Center attack. His brothers knew that they didn't want to respond to death with more death, so his sister-in-law came up with the idea of reaching out to refugees, and so showing folks the best that America could be, and she started doing just that. (And yeah, it's hard to believe the environment is more hostile now than it was then.) Every time I think of them, I think of Terry, so yay, and thanks.

Kong, the Esophagael Cancer Action Network just got a happy ping.

This is a beautiful tradition we have here!

And I am truly about Terry. I have been watching 9-11 stuff lately on youtube and it's a heartbreak.

My niece is a high school music teacher in Allentown, PA. Apparently there is a large Syrian population there and she is adamant about accepting them. I trust her.
