Seems to be some anxiety about it being 12/20 with SNY having not yet tied him down with a new contract.

It's amazing how it gets like this every contract, seemingly because Keith is detached enough that he can walk away. Ron and Gary are the ones with negotiating leverage, because they have other irons on the fire. It's like Keith just plays hardball because he's Keith.

i like Keith just fine but none of these guys are Bob Murphy, I wouldn't care much at this point if we lost any of them

They're the best broadcast team in baseball and losing any would be a tragedy.

They're not Bob Murphy, true. They're a LOT more entertaining. I couldn't bear the thought of losing any of them.

Keith will sign eventually. The suits at SNY know that not signing him would be a PR disaster. This isn't Bob Ojeda we're talking about here.

Is this really a thing, where's the anxiety?
What irons does Gary have in the fire besides Seton Hall b'ball?
Him and Howie are Mr. Metsiest of them all and I imagine they will
be part of our lives until they retire.

He's done plenty of hockey and basketball. I think he'd be unemployed for about a minute if he walked away from the Mets.

College hockey and basketball are hardly NY MLB face of the Mets.
I didn't say he'd have trouble finding work, I just asked what the irons
were. They're certainly not the same level of irons that Ron has working
for TBS and MLB network was what I was thinking.

But what's Keith's alternative?

Same role different team? ... I have trouble seeing that. It would probably need to be the perfect spot for him (San Fran?) and who says that spot's even open (Giants have a good team now with Krukow & Kuiper).
Retire and spend the full-year in Florida doing ... whatever it is he does in Florida? would be tough to maintain his current two homes situation with no income.
I think he's too kooky for any of the networks - 10 years or more doing what he does and I've never heard them sniff about him even once while Ronnie does weekends and post-season.

So I suspect he'll sign after the haggling over the details run their course as both sides will realize that they've got a good thing going here.

The NYDN (Raissman) ran an article the other day talking about how it's not a done deal yet and the contract expires Jan 1.
No hints that it wouldn't happen only that it hasn't yet and yaneverknow.

That's almost certainly true. Hell, he could find another baseball job, most likely. The Met and Giant booths seem near-universally regarded as everybody's second favorite booths in baseball.

Yeah, I don't think Gary could live without baseball. Hell, it seems that most of the time he's not doing a game he spends watching other games.
So I think he views college hoops and the like as mere appetizers to his main course and if he ever had cause to want to leave NYM/SNY it would be for another full-time MLB gig - although you figure it would be anywhere but the Bronx.

As for Keith, I think he enjoys his job and I also think he enjoys complaining about his job. I expect he'll be back, but part of the deal might include an obligation to do fewer games.

I agree completely with this. I think Keith will be back too. Both sides have very few options here.

Keith is going to be the next Ralph Kiner i suspect. 30 years from now he'll be showing up for the odd Sunday afternoon game and telling tales about playing with long dead guys like Gary Carter, how he met Musial that time and that very dated 90s comedy show with Jerry Seinfeld.

This is good. I always felt it would get done.

There is not another fan base out there that would find him nearly as interesting as we do.
