Apropos of Nothing 2016

Jan 02 2016 01:04 AM

What just happened in the telecast of the Rose Bowl?
The announcers (especially Brent the Bland) spent most of the first half telling us how great the interesting and irreverent Stamford Band is. I've heard a lot about them, but rarely get a chance to see them.
Then, at half time, they show us the Iowa band from ground level and the press box. Standard halftime band coverage - you can see and hear what's going on.
Cut to commercial. Here's the Stamford band. The microphone is right next to the band, so you can't determine what song they're playing. Then a shot from (I guess the blimp flying) overhead. And the camera pans back. Wayyyyyyyyyy back. The floor of the stadium becomes a rumor.
And they never went in for a shot that showed us what the excitement is all about.
Was someone afraid of what the "irreverent" band might have done or played?
Stamford was leading 35-0 at the half. The band was the only thing that would keep people watching.
Stupid.

OE: They didn't want to show a cow!!!

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

There apparently isn't an auto parts place within a 25 mile radius of Danbury that has an upper ball joint assembly for my car. (A Ford Explorer - nothing exotic) I hit something in the highway Wednesday night, blew out two tires, and ruined the rim. Until the mechanic was able to work on it (New Years's Eve day) he didn't notice the other damage.
My mechanic (who I've used and trusted for many years) has had four parts delivered and each time it has been the wrong one.

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

The first two years that D-Dad and I lived in Boston we had a reasonably large 1-bedroom apartment in the Fenway. Things were fine the first year, but during the second year a family of five Haitians moved in above us. The grandmother of the family didn't merely set off their apartment smoke alarm constantly, but she would set off the building smoke alarm on a regular basis!

Between that and the fact that their bathroom floods would occasionally leak into our bathroom we didn't make it to a third year in the place.

Like Gibbs, I don't believe in coincidences:

Michael Weatherly has pleaded no contest to a driving under the influence (DUI) charge from his November arrest, TMZ reports.

The actor, best known for playing Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo on “NCIS,” was detained by police officers in LA after he was found to have a blood alcohol level higher than .08, the legal limit.

He was sentenced to three years probation on Tuesday; he must also complete a three-month alcohol program and a Mothers Against Drunk Driving program.

Four days later, he announces he's leaving the show.

That being said, I hope they bring back Ziva, and they ride off into the sunset together.

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

I was reading an article on ESPN about a high school team that cancelled their season because a few players "allegedly" (I need to say allegedly right?) committed rape and found this very unusual:

Tennessee law defines aggravated rape as a rape in which the defendant either has a weapon, causes bodily injury or is aided or abetted by another.

[url]http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/14520526/tennessee-high-school-cancels-basketball-season-rape-charges

When, exactly, does a rape NOT 'cause bodily injury'? I guess this could be meant to separate a rape accomplished through physical force from one accomplished through the victim being too intoxicated to consent or something? anyway, it seemed weird.

This morning I told them that I'm definitely voting in the Republican primary and that Jeb Bush is strongest on environmental issues. Let them deal with that as they see fit.

I just got off the phone with one of my favorite cousins; a contemporary of my dad's, and a few years older than him. She's suffering from brain cancer and has positively no short term memory. On the one hand, it's really frustrating for me to have the same conversations with her over and over (often during the same phone call), but on the other hand she always seems happy to hear the same news about the kids, and for her she's always hearing these things for the first time.

You should have sympathy for me! If everything goes right, I had a 20-minute car drive and a 90-minute flight to get home yesterday, instead I got a harrowing drive through really hard grey rain without glasses (I lost mine in the snow 2 weeks ago and new ones haven't arrived), a wait-out-the-delay, board-the-plane, wait 90- minutes-for-maintenence, deboard, flight canceled, hotel/rebook scramble, walk through the rain for a crappy meal at Longhorn Steakhouse where the TV was playing the 2011 NBA all-star game. This morning the rescheduled flight (leave the crappy hotel at 5 am) sat on the runway for an hour while they contemplated whether LaGuardia would be open but got the okay to go because of medical equipment on board, long circling patterns over Richmond then Philly, then the bouncy takedown, then the wait on the ground for a gate (we eventually were towed to one). Essentially a 24-hour trip home!

You know things are bad when the New York stations are covering something this far south in New Jersey, and this spot is smack dab on my son's drive home from work. I never telephone him when he might be driving, but I made an exception today. Good thing that I did - I was able to catch him just in time for him to bypass the area and take an alternate route home.

MetIrish pointed out to me that the smoke from this fire is showing up on radar maps! I'm glad my son was able to steer clear of this!

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

The private companies that went into recycling certainly thought it was going to be profitable and the municipalities that got in I'm sure did so with the idea that they at least wouldn't lose money on the deal, but lately the whole recycling business has become a money drain on both the public and private sides and glass has long been the least profitable aspect of it.
One problem is that people tend not to participate unless you make it easy -- i.e.. don't require them to separate glass from plastic from paper, etc. -- so now it costs more for the collector to separate everything out. To combat that they give you bigger bins that will hold ALL the recyclables but that results in folks wanting to fill them so in goes a bunch of stuff that shouldn't be in there and that drives up costs as well.

And that's why this isn't in an "other sports" forum. It isn't.

our system really needs reform - I think we're pretty good, overall, at judging liability but really bad at awarding reasonable damages. I've seen people who can't walk anymore following grossly negligent or intentional conduct get far less.

what is the least amount of money you guys would let nudies go up on the internet for? lets assume as part of the deal they'd be on the first page of your google results permanently. I'd probably sign up for $100K (it would be less, probably about $10k for the embarrassment, but I have to factor something in for the possibility that it hurts me with potential future employers)

The point we seem to be missing here is that she didn't "let" the pictures be posted. She's a victim of a crime. She's not being "paid" or "rewarded" for what happened, the people who are at fault are being punished. I really don't think that Marriott should be held to blame -- how can they reasonably be expected to know everything that goes on in their hotel rooms? -- but I have no problem with punishing the jerk with the camera. He'll never be able to pay the full amount, of course, but if he spends the rest of his life with a big garnishment on his paycheck it's no less than he deserves.

And it's not just that they went on the internet. What Marriott is at fault for is enabling her stalker and compromised her safety. They're lucky the guy _only_ wanted to take video and not hurt her because what they basically did was tell a stranger exactly where she was.

The guy is going to jail over this, but the suit is against Marriott because they basically gave him adjoining rooms to Andrews on multiple occasions simply by him asking for it with no questions or restrictions as to why he wanted such a specific room or with any concern as to whether or not she was OK with this arrangement. They certainly have something coming to them.

Where the award seems excessive is for damages her career may have suffered as a result. The chain's lawyers got raked over the coals in various media circles for pointing out that her career seems to be sailing along just fine since, as if this implied that she was enjoying the fame this brought her, but if you're trying to limit damages to just the act itself I think it's a perfectly legit line of questioning (at least if handled properly).

I'll respectfully disagree with you. They divulged personal information about a guest with a willful disregard for that guest's safety and security, and took the additional step of placing this perv in the room next to her. They didn't merely allow this to happen; they fueled the act. IMO those acts make Marriott as culpable as the actor, because they had a heads up that this guy was focused on Erin and turned a blind eye to what they should have realized was stalking.

The result of the suit actually set the fault of the act at 51% on the individual with the remainder on the hotel.
How one comes up with those numbers I have no idea but that was their finding.

Of course the dude who did this did so with the intent on selling whatever he filmed specifically because he had no money so he won't wind up paying 51% of whatever the final settlement is.

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

Purim is a festive holiday. It celebrates The Book of Esther, where Esther risked her own life to save her people. Dressing up and having a raucous time are a big part of the holiday (not unlike Chanukah, it's a minor holiday from a religious standpoint but one that is celebrated joyfully). The hamentaschen is a three-cornered pastry to symbolize the three-cornered hat worn by Hamen, who sought to destroy the Jews.

Or, as my rabbi breaks it (and many other Jewish holidays) down - they tried to kill us, they didn't kill us - let's eat!

Two Saturdays ago, I decided to pick up Chinese food on the way home from work. When I got to the parking lot, my car didn't seem to be running right. I picked up the food, and on the way home, my car stopped moving. I was giving it gas, the engine revved, but the car didn't move. I coasted to a stop a block away from my house. I called AAA and my wife.
She said, "I'll be right there". She drove up about three minutes later, opened the window and said, "Give me the Chinese food. You can eat when you get home".
Yes. I'm Larry David, but without the money.

The AAA truck came, gave me a tow to my local mechanic and waited until Monday to find out that the transmission was shot and would cost more to fix than the vehicle was worth. (1998 Ford Explorer). So I got a new (used) car to be used for my commute - a Mazda SUV. Working fine so far (knocking wood).
The Chinese food gave me heartburn.

Well the Harriet Tubman $20 is scheduled for a 2020 debut so that gives her part of a ten year run anyway. Just another example of keeping the black (wo)man down.
The better move would have been to create a new $2 bill for Tubman (or for whoever they wanted to honor) at the same time you phase out the paper dollar in favor of a $1 coin, but this decision, like most others, are made with political correctness in mind rather than common or fiscal sense.

That's part of it; boring thread titles are, after all, boring.
But mostly I believe it's a play on the trend of rock stations choosing call letters with lots of hard-consonants so as to create tough-sounding commercial monikers like 'K-Rock' or 'Q-104'
By contrast, station managers would tend to view call letters like WIMP or WUSS as a turn-off to the young male demographic they're trying to court.

Well I'm not sure of what's "required". Traditionally it was a W prefix for radio stations east of the Mississippi and K west of it, but I don't even know if those were hard and fast rules or simply custom.
But it's the final (usually) 3 letters that are left up to the owner's choice so if there's a place they want to 'stamp' an identity that's usually it. With rock stations from maybe the late '70s on that meant a lot of Ks, Qs, and Xs

If I had a nickle for everytime I clicked a thread with absolutely no idea what was inside..

Not enough of those IMO.

Traditionally it was a W prefix east of the Mississippi and K west of it, but I don't even know if those were hard and fast rules or simply custom.

I was surprised to find that the Pittsburgh Pirates radio network is KDKA FM 93.7. I had always thought that call letters east of the Mississippi always started with W as well, but this proved me wrong.

Per the stations Wiki page, it has gone through numerous call letter (and format) changes:

The station also adopted the call sign KDKA-FM on February 15, 2010, to reflect the recent trend for CBS Radio all-sports stations in markets with a heritage CBS-owned station to have matching call signs, in this case KDKA-TV and the historic KDKA Radio.

This led me to the KDKA-TV Wiki page:

Westinghouse changed WDTV's call letters to KDKA-TV, after Westinghouse's pioneering radio station KDKA (1020 AM). As such, it became one of the few stations east of the Mississippi River with a "K" call sign.

Which led me to KDKA (1020 AM) Wiki page:

KDKA enjoys grandfathered status as one of only a handful of stations east of the Mississippi River that have call letters beginning with K. Four of them are in Pittsburgh, the others being KDKA-TV and KDKA-FM (also owned by CBS) and KQV, owned by Calvary Broadcasting. Other stations east of the Mississippi with call letters beginning with "K" are KYW and KYW-TV in Philadelphia, KFIZ in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, KTGG Spring Arbor, Michigan, KYAI McKee, Kentucky and KJWP-TV in Wilmington, Delaware. (Technically, there are additional stations just east of the Mississippi with K call letters, although they are in media markets or states which straddle the river and have stations with both K and W call signs.)

Eventually Season Two was announced - forget my toddler, I was excited for some new episodes. Then it debuted - same kids, same sets, same songs - I totally lost it. minimm was raised on the little einsteins, and later, mickey mouse clubhouse. thankfully, we transitioned him to phineas & ferb, and the world was a far better place.

he's in charge of the tv for his brothers, and while we'd started them on sesame street for a bit, we realized that it was a pale shadow of its former self. then it moved to hbo, which we don't have. minimm had them on team oomizoomi for a while, then decided he wanted to watch mickey mouse clubhouse again. awful, but the twins loved it. then they started re-airing the little einsteins, which was way, way better.

right now, he's on a massive wild kratts kick - he first saw them on netflix at the in-laws', and happily we can get them currently airing on pbs. it's not bad, actually, and filled with actual real animal facts, which he loves. the twins like seeing the animals too, though they'd prefer einstein plane, as they call it.

I dunno, it's sadly depressing. If gunning down 20 six-year-olds for no reason won't change things, then nothing will.

When someone says that the only solution to gun violence is for more people to have more guns, and that person is taken seriously by a significant part of the population, then there's no hope.

Gun down 200 people waiting in line to enter Disney World. Gun down 300 at a high school graduation. It won't matter. Because the battle for control of guns, any control at all, has been lost.

Any restriction, no matter how tiny, no matter how sensible, is viewed by the gun fetishists as Armaggedon. They're too well organized, and there just aren't enough committed people to fight them. Nothing I've seen is going to change that.

In Wake of Latest Mass Shooting Terror, StopBulletsNow.org Looks to Save Lives With Bulletproof School Supplies

NEW YORK, June 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As America once again struggles to make sense of the latest horrific mass shooting incidents, culminating this past weekend in the worst mass shooting in US history in Orlando, Florida, a new organization is looking to raise awareness of the life-saving potentials of bulletproof products.

Photo - http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20160614/379309

Photo - http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20160614/379310

"StopBulletsNow (https://www.stopbulletsnow.org) is not a politically affiliated organization and we are not trying to tell people whether we believe they should have the right to own a gun or not," explains Executive Director Michael Robinson. "Our purpose is to educate people- primarily parents- on what to teach their kids to do in the event of an emergency- like a school shooting- and to provide the proper equipment, which can make the difference between life and death."

With seven mass shootings in just seven days since June 6th, and a total of 133 since 2016 started, many fear mass shootings are on a steep increase with no end in sight and are turning to products such as bulletproof backpacks. "After the most recent shootings, I bought one for each of my kids," says Martha Leonard of Dallas, Texas. "We watch the news- every day we live in fear that they could go to school and never come back. These backpacks give us some peace of mind."

What is clear is that with the Presidential election less than five months off, Americans can expect to see the gun control issue take center stage in national discussion and debate- but will this accomplish anything substantial? Not according to analyst Peter Stein, who says "We must remember that the 2nd Amendment is entrenched in our Constitution and getting rid of it would require the approval of 3/4 of all 50 states- something that is near improbable."

StopBulletsNow retails not only their bulletproof backpacks, but also bulletproof notebook covers, clipboards, and gym & travel gear for people of all ages. The products are all manufactured with NIJ IIIA standard material- meaning they can protect against handgun, shotgun, and sub-machine gun blasts.

One thing is for sure- retailers of such products are already seeing a spike in sales that are sure to last into the summer months as parents prepare for the 2016 school year- possibly even becoming the most popular Fall accessory for kids and teens.

"We are doing everything we can to raise awareness of these products so we can take our educational campaign across America into all 50 states," says Robinson. "We are currently in talks with school boards, as one of our organization's key goals is to donate backpacks to children in high-risk areas. In the fall we also plan to launch contests where people can nominate a teacher to win backpacks for their entire classroom. We want to do a lot of good things and save a lot of lives."

Well, now that the dust has settled a bit, this seemed more a case of a self-loathing closeted gay guy who decided to take out his frustrations with a highly efficient killing machine, and less a case of OMG ISIS IS COMING FOR US ALL.

So this can go with Aurora, CO, Newtown, CT, Phoenix, AZ and Blacksburg, VA as just another place where a disturbed person got to kill lots of innocent people with a military-grade weapon.

Giant walls should be built to keep the alligators in their swamps where they
belong and out of our theme parks where they're not paying their way.

The more that comes out, it's just an f'd up story. Sickening, I try not to follow
the updates because it's just so sad how things have become.
Of course, if he didn't pass a back round check he probably could have bought
the gun for $5,000 from some guy's trunk out by the dump if he really wanted
one badly enough.

The thing about the heroin epidemic is a large part of it is about folks who got addicted to scrips like Oxycontin, and found heroin to be cheaper. A lot of these folks never really entered the abuse population as recreational users but as back injury patients or the like. Nice folks like you. Suburban and rural places like northern New England.

When decriminalization advocates talk about treating the drug epidemic as a health crisis, that seems to make a lot of sense, but it was health policy that created the opportunity for proliferation of the prescription opiates that have served as the gateway drug.

The epidemic I speak of is more with the youth of this country. I used recreational

I always add a dollop of olive oil to the water to avoid stickiness otherwise I use the Grimm recipe for white rice.

I have considerably more trouble with other grains, the "realer" (brown rice, millet, quinoa, etc.) the longer and more difficult the prep.

Apropos of nothing, Wifey went out to get the Bucketmobile this morning only to realize it has been sideswiped some time between 730 last night and 830 this morning. Driver side front and rear doors dented and scaped, and hit so hard the rear passenger side wheel knocked up onto the curb, hubcap smashed.

We're checking with a coffee shop on the corner to see if they caught anything on their security camera but damage looks such that it was hit by a car out of the lane and traveling toward it, which would be consistent with the fact that there was no note left.

Second time in as many months the car had been hit and ran while parked; last time just required a new tail light glass. Its complete lawlessness on the streets of Brooklyn these days and parking is already a nightmare as construction closures and movie shoots take what little space remains. Im half-hoping for a total diagnosis and forcing us to consider going auto-free but theres stuff like little league and Mother-in-law visit requirements.

On the very same corner 2 days ago, a Car-to-Go smartcar was torched after a street couch alongside it set fire to by homeless criminals engulfed it.

That's horrible! Sorry to hear that. So frustrating.

I had kind of a scary car thing happen last weekend. I was coming back from dropping my daughter off at her college. Part of that trip is on an interstate with two lanes in each direction, and then a two-lane road, which sucks because I always get stuck behind a camper or something equally slow moving.

This was late -- around 1 a.m. -- on a Saturday, and I turned off the two-lane on to the interstate. A couple miles after entering the interstate, I was in the right hand land and see a car coming toward me in the other lane, going really fast.

My first thought was, "Damn, am I still on the freaking two-lane road?"

Then I realized, no, I was on the interstate. Then I panicked -- was I going in the wrong direction? No, the signs were all facing me.

The I realized it was a guy, probably a drunk at that time of night, driving the wrong way on the interstate. Yikes.

Cooby, heard something on the radio today about this. Every few years, the oak trees produce a large (more tan usual) amount of acorns. This si one of those years. There aren't enough squirrels to take them all, so they stay on the ground. Do not let your dogs eat them. If swallowed whole, they can painfully block the intestines. If chewed, they release a substance that can make the dogs sick.

Bet JCL could weight in on this more, but it seems very much like an inventory thing. They sell out of the Halloween stuff and just put the Christmas stuff up, whenever that is. They're rather that be in early October than get to November with Halloween stuff on hand, and once the Christmas stuff is gone, Valentines day stuff will go up. (typically the week before Christmas in my observations)

Of course this means that it gets harder and harder to find last minute items.

It's similar with beer. Sam Adams wants to own that tap handle in the bar, so when you run out of Summer Ale, they want to be ready to ship you Octoberfest or Pumpkin ales. If you sell out in July? oh well.

Florida man driving home from strip club falls out of truck and runs himself over
By Alex Harris aharris@miamiherald.com

On his way home from a strip club, a Florida man fell out of his truck, ran himself over and then ran off, troopers say.

The Orlando Sentinel reported the 28-year-old Casselberry man left Dancers Royale strip club around 2 a.m. Tuesday. Less than a block away, the Florida Highway Patrol said he fell out of his 2016 Ford pickup and promptly ran over his own leg.

The man was down, but his truck kept going, rolling into a nearby house and injuring a 58-year-old woman inside, the Sentinel reported. By the time troopers got there the driver was gone, but his truck (complete with an ID) was still stuck inside the house.

The woman was treated for minor injuries in her home. The man is still on the run.

It does, because we have about two months of pre-printed mailing batched and ready to mail in the warehouse, and its impossible to find a particular customer's mailings and pull them back. When the customer calls, we don't print up an ynew ones.

When I worked at woolrich and customers called to cancel their catalog I was always fine with it, as long as they were civil.

If they were nasty I'd not only not take their name off the mailing list, I'd think of every possible manifestation of their names and add that too. Some people got upwards of five catalogs after that

You know, like Bob Smith, Robert smith , Rob, Bob, Mr Bob, Mr Rob, etc etc

Once I added Richard Head at that persons address. I wonder if they ever figured that one out

Hope it went well 62!

I keep a washcloth in my car for wiping off the inside windshield, etc.
Yesterday when I left for my grandson's house it was still dark and kinda misty so along the way, on a bridge, I opened my window and wiped off the drivers side mirror.
When I got to V's house, I noticed I was missing a glove. Well they're hot pink, and I got that color on purpose, because I tend to lose about five or six gloves a year, and hoped pink would be easy to spot.
All I could figure out was that it somehow got out the window when I opened it to wipe off the mirror.

I decided to look for it on the way home but when I got back there it was 5:30 pm and dark and rainy.

But bless its little heart, there it lay on the center line. I had to drive the whole way to the end of the bridge, turn around and spot it again (rush hour remember) pull over and get out with my little flashlight and search it down.
But I got it back, drove the whole way to the OTHER end of the bridge, turned around and headed home with it , soaking wet and filthy. It washed up like a dream today though :)

At the very least you'd be entitled to the two weeks of unemployment I'd think.

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

Today I boarded the 7 at Vernon Jackson as usual to 5th ave and walked to the office. At the building door I realized my wallet was missing.

Filled out a form with the MTA (took forever), called to cancel and reissue 5 or 6 credit/debit cards, retraced steps to the 5th avenue stop, visited my local bank to try and get a replacement ATM card (you need ID for that, natch) and so was all pissy and shit then got my office phone rung. Chick picked up my wallet on the vernon jackson platform and it was with her at her office -- literally on the same street as mine.

That's kind of effed up holiday good luck. I had lost most of my belief in humanity till just then.

"Turns out she's been checking me out on the subway for about a month
and wanted to meet me and check my situation so she picked my pocket
and the rest is...."

Seriously though, that's pretty cool. Humanity rocks!

If you accidentally go to scwhab.com instead of schwab.com it takes
you to Fidelity Investments. Brilliant!

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

Actress Helen Mirren was being interviewed about her new movie.
She was asked if she had any advice for young actresses.
Among other things, she said, " Be on time. Don't be an asshole."

Great advice, no matter what profession.

Two things:

1) Last week, I had almost the exact same experience that JCL did, only in Flushing, only substituting the SkyView shopping center/a local northern Chinese eatery (Fu Ting-- highly recommended for both honesty AND dining experience; try the "Muslim" Lamb Chop, green-bean jelly vegetables, or anything pork-entrail-y) for the 7 train/a good Samaritan at the office next door.

2) MTA Lost and Found works! Sort of!

One January day, about a month and a half into culinary school, I went out for a drink with my classmates after class. Dozed a bit on the train home, and woke up JUST at my stop; in scrambling for the door, I left my yuuuuuge school knife kit behind on the train, and only realized it as the train had pulled out of station. I filled out the MTA form that night.

I made my way through the next two months or so of culinary school with a loaner kit, comprised of beater knives that wouldn't hold an edge; after that, I lucked into a decent price on a usable Wusthof mini-kit, and was able to add a couple of other affordable supplementary tools. I made do with these all the way through my graduation day.

Two weeks later, I got an e-mail from the MTA: kit found... after only seven months of diligent, strenuous searching. For something left in plain sight, with three different ways to contact the owner clearly visible, within about an hour of the train's likely cleanup time. (I checked.) My guess is, some train cleaner found it, someone tried to pawn/eBay/craigslist it, decided it wasn't worth it, and returned it. But hey! Hooray for the system!

I would really love to try tofurkey one day. I don't think that anyone else in my family would, but perhaps one day we'll attend a holiday meal where it's one of the options being served.

Actual tofurky, or just Tofurky-branded products? They make a great fake Italian sausage. I think a bunch of places near you carry it - certainly Wegman's does.

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

What I mean is a substitute for a Thanksgiving turkey made out of tofu. I'll eat turkey, but I'm not its greatest fan; I think I would enjoy the soy-based substitute on a holiday (who knows - maybe I'd try it and hate it. But I think I'd probably enjoy it).

Not the branded stuff.

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

Tofurky is made in Hood River, Oregon, not far from Portland where my daughter lives. They have quite the presence in the town which is also known for having a plethora of breweries, which is the reason we were there. It's ok - about as good as white-meat turkey but not nearly as good as dark-meat turkey.

If my experience with losing shit in public places is informative, it's more likely they found it on day one, it was turned in, but never measured against incoming reports until one day somebody pointed at a shelf, and said, "Hey, noob, all that shit gets tossed today. Give it one more check against the paperwork, claim what you want, and the rest goes in the dumpster."

And that "one more check" was naturally the first check anybody had done in months.

I lost a wallet on a plane and it came back to me from Boston two months later.

They have single-serving-sized Tofurkey meals. I enjoy it and I'm still alive.

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

When she was going to college (about 50 years ago) my wife (she wasn't then) lost her purse on the 125th Street crosstown bus.

It was returned to her a few days later with a note from the person who found it saying that they had taken money from her wallet to pay for the postage. But all the rest of her money,ID information and other personal items were still in the purse.

12 days from now ends the first year post Ashie1. I am more hopeful than I have been but need to fight through some physical stuff. I got her a Christmas card and am writing a letter to be opened in the future.

This is undoubtedly a great cause, but there has to be a story behind Nelson Figueroa's association with Chai Lifeline.

Could it be that he was introduced to the charity while at Brandeis University?

Re: Apropos of Nothing 2016

Back in the summer of 1997, I was working for a radio station in Rochester. Leaving the office one day, we had a pair of tickets to that night's John Denver show at FLPAC that a contest winner never picked up; I called my girlfriend (now wife) and asked if she wanted to go. Not that either of us were fans, but they were good seats and it would have been one of those shows where you totally would have known every song. She decided to pass - "we'll go see him some other time," she said -- and like a month later he crashed his plane into a mountain.

Never turn down free tickets, kids.
