Weather 2016

Do we have one yet?

I'll start.

Last night I lay in bed listening to the pouring rain; it looks like tonight I'll be listening to the wind blow. We keep losing power which is not good since I have about 85 loads of laundry to do

Had to shovel a little snow off my driveway this morning. Probably around an inch. Its going to stay in the 20s today, but it could melt from the sun and then freeze later tonight.

The worst thing about this storm was the salt and other assorted crap that was put down on the roads. I already ran my car through the car wash.

This was my driveway 3 years ago, after a storm dumped 36 inches of snow on us in 24 hours. Any talk of a "blizzard for the ages" reduces me to giggles.

I've been shoveling three times a day since Sunday. That will continue at least through tomorrow morning.

It's a way of life, up here. You bundle up, shrug it off, and come in for hot cocoa or coffee when you're done. Fboy and Fgirl don't mind it a bit.

The CT stations are all giving it that ol' "definite maybe", based on the "track of the storm".
This could mean I might actually have to go to work on Saturday.

Anyhow, update time.
It started about an hour ago here north of Danbury, CT. Not much snow yet, but ots of wind.

I hope he is careful not to slip and re-injure the break. There are lots of folks with snow blowers on my street, and people use them like a cane to lean on while plowing and forget there can be icy spots between the wheels.

I've seen (up close and personal) a major highway near Ashville shut down for weeks due to snow cover that went unremoved and turned to ice. Also, been in the city of Atlanta when it was shut down to all but essential traffic because of two inches of snow.
They DO have an idea of how to deal with ice and snow. I believe it can be summarized as "wait for Summer".

Have some piles where I have to pile, have some grass spots in
other areas. The sun side of the street this time of year, not us,
have all grass in their front yards.

Spring is coming even if we have another big snow. I looked at

Got my son down to college in MD on Friday as his semester started on Monday. Missed the outbreak of snow down there by about 2 hours.

Then they get 30+ inches, and cancel classes for Monday AND Tuesday. Hmm....college kids with absolutely no work to do and plenty of free time. Yahtzee.

Where in MD? YoungestDGW starts at Towson next fall.

McDaniel College. It's a small liberal arts college 30 miles northwest of Baltimore, up in the hills. And yeah, I'm guessing Yahtzee wasn't the first game they played.

A friend has a kid who's a sophomore in Towson now and they love it.

I hat that f'n groundhog.
Took me twice as long as usual to get to work this morning and about 1 1/2 the usual time to get home. They had plowed the roads this afternoon, but it snowed again and was still snowing when I drove home.
That critter'd better stay away from me or it'll git skinned.

Calling for some powerfully low temps this weekend, of course, it would be the weekend I have a 12 mile training run on tap in preparation for the Vermont City marathon this May. Highs near zero. With windchill!

I don't mind snow in the least. But bitter cold temperatures make all of my end pieces hurt.

When I got home last night I saw that my driveway had been plowed (which means it had been at least 3" deep).
It snowed almost another 3 inches AFTER my driveway got plowed, which I had to shovel.
If that f'n groundhog ever had to shovel snow, it would get Spring here a lot quicker.

You might want to settle for the treadmill. Which suxx. But not as much as freezing off body parts.

My gym does have a track, which is preferable to the treadmill. But this would be 156 laps (13 laps to the mile around the outermost lane). Which is an awful lot.

I am considering this, actually. Fwife has expressed her concern about me being out there for so long in sub-zero temps.

If you have a watch that will keep track of the laps and some good music to listen to I think that would be your best option.

The trick is cutting it up into tiny pieces, use a wine-based marinade (the acid tenderizes the meat) and then cooking it a few minutes longer than you would other stew meats. About a half hour before its done, be sure to skim the fat off the top.
The extra effort is worth the wait, not to mention the satisfaction you get for payback on the critter that predicted an early Spring.
I can't believe I tried to make that a serious answer.

I haven't said it, but when I see that I always want to say, "You know, I could live in Florida too, if I wanted to. The reason you live there and I don't isn't because you have some credentials that I lack. I'm aware that it's warm there in the winter, but have chosen to live in the north because weather isn't the only factor that affects quality of life. Please be sure to remind me again of what a paradise Florida is in July when it's 105 and humid, or when there's one hurricane after another."

I might be less adverse to Florida if it wasn't so full of smug Floridians who think they've solved all of life's problems by moving there.

Sometimes, they can be good folks.
About two days after we moved into our house(in February), the oil burner had problems. We called the company listed on the wall near the furnace and they sent a repair person. He said, " I guess with all the things you had to do when you moved in, you didn't have time to renew the maintenance contract. We'll cover this at no charge. Just make sure you renew the contract when you get a chance".
We've stayed with that oil company for 40 years, and our annual renewal of the contract has paid for itself many times.

By this morning, they're predicting the lesser amounts.
