Kinda of a coming of age flick. Irish lass goes to Brooklyn after WWII, meets Italian guy, gets hitched, goes back to ireland without said guy after a family event. Hijinks ensure.

Saoirse Ronan is outstanding. I want her to mother my children. I can't quite comprehend how she didn't get the role of Rey in THE FORCE AWAKENS. Fuck you, JJ Abrams.

Some breathtaking vistas of Eire (same beach where SAVING PRIVATE RYAN was filmed)

Best line: "Do you want our kids to grow up supporting the Yankees?".

In fact, I'm bumping up my rating from *** 1/2 to **** because of the above line.

I'm getting wildly divergent opinions on this. From "What? You haven't seen it. Drop what you're doing now and I'll take you." to "Nothing I haven't seen on LifeTime."

It's nothing you haven't seen before. However, it's superbly produced and acted. For someone with an Irish heritage, I'd prolly put it in the first category.

I concur with 3D. It's a lovely film and Saoirse Ronan is wonderful as the young woman who travels from Ireland to Brooklyn for a better life.

It's not perfect, but it's beautifully filmed story.

Re: Brooklyn (2015)

As somebody with a deep, personal connection with the majestic borough of Brooklyn, I was rather disappointed by the lack of recognizable landmarks, save for Coney Island. Where were the Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridges, where were the factories, where was Prospect Park, where were the Naval Shipyards, where were the Polish bakeries (with cute Polish girls with flour on their cheeks)?

So it was filmed in Montreal, Quebec. But if they bothered film the Coney Island scenes on location, why not add a few more scenes at other recognizable locations?

I read the novel and remember being really, really irritated by the main character's complete inability to make any decisions for herself. Maybe Saoirse Ronan makes her less spineless or at least more sympathetic. It was a beautifully written book otherwise.

I agree with El Segundo that there should have been Brooklyn landmarks but it was an easy film to watch. She's terrific.
