Raw Talent and Raw Sewage: Las Vegas in 2016

The Las Vegas 51s, who had a strong 2016 but faded precipitously down the stretch — perhaps because of the Mets draining their talent, perhaps because of their plumbing undraining their shit — are welcoming Wally Backman back, man, for his fourth season heading the club.

Also returning is pitching coach Frank Viola and batting instructor Jack Voigt.

Surprised they've been together this long in the same place. Every pitcher coming through the system raves about Viola. Wally has had his issues, but he's kept his nose clean in Vegas (one of the hardest places in the world to keep your nose clean).

It's kind of like they're warming up in the bullpen waiting for Collins and Warthen to retire.
