Mets will be wearing 1986 uniforms multiple times throughout the season.
|
Centerfield Feb 03 2016 09:33 PM Re: 1986 |
I don't know that this is a good idea. They're going to smell pretty bad even after just a game or two.
|
Edgy MD Feb 03 2016 09:37 PM Re: 1986 |
No, I think you misunderstand me.
|
Benjamin Grimm Feb 03 2016 09:39 PM Re: 1986 |
Aesthetically, I don't really care for those uniforms, but they sure do bring back great memories. It will be kind of nice to see, once in a while, David Wright and Jacob deGrom and all the others in those uniforms.
|
Benjamin Grimm Feb 03 2016 09:44 PM Re: 1986 |
How about they wear these uniforms?

Me: Ok. This sounds great. Can one of those combinations include First Responder hats for the 9/11 game? Powers that be: Absolutely not.

The matching belts are quite impressive. I think the NEW New York Mets (from 1962 to 1976) had a BYOB policy.

I absolutely unequivocally love love love love this.

Me and Keith disagree.
|
metsmarathon Feb 04 2016 01:50 AM Re: 1986 |
Mex's complaint was about the fabric, not the aesthetic, iirc.
|
batmagadanleadoff Feb 04 2016 01:53 AM Re: 1986 |

I think Keith preferred the traditional look -- buttons all the way up and down the jersey and no racing stripes.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Feb 04 2016 04:28 AM Re: 1986 |
Even better news is they are replacing the camouflage clown suits, essentially.

Lefty Specialist Feb 04 2016 12:45 PM Re: 1986 |
Let's hope they don't go 'full 86' and start doing cocaine.

I think it was originally said by a guy who was trying to sniff up the foul lines. Later

Yep.

Nah dude. If you're gonna do it, wear the stirrups and all.

Edgy MD Feb 04 2016 06:35 PM Re: 1986 |
Nice to see "MATT" paying tribute to his predecessor "MIKE."

Edgy MD Feb 04 2016 07:54 PM Re: 1986 |
Amazingly, Joe Petruccio claims ownership over the 1980s piped-siding uniform designs.

Enough with the 86 love. Create a new history.

There's a lot of things to get on the Wilpey's about but a thirty-year anniversary sprinkled with some games with retro uniforms isn't a bad thing. Plenty of new history; they did win the pennant and 2016 looks promising.

Roster size of 12. Love it. Can you imagine walking into this group and saying "Ok, with innings limits and such, all of you are going to have to pitch. And in September, we are going to expand the roster more and get more pitchers so that your arms don't get taxed.

And speaking of 1986, check out this cool picture:

This picture is even cooler!

Why were the Mets hosting Mike Tyson and giving him stuff?

Should have done the discount double check first. But you liked them right?
|
Edgy MD Feb 05 2016 04:04 PM Re: 1986 |
Notice how Ray Knight, the one who was actually trained to box, wanted no part of Tyson.
|
cooby classic Feb 05 2016 04:09 PM Re: 1986 |
lol I thought of that too Edgy
|
batmagadanleadoff Feb 05 2016 04:57 PM Re: 1986 |

That's not true. Tyson visited the Mets at Shea that season, in part, to specifically meet Ray Knight (the visit was documented in various publicity shots depicting Tyson play-punching it out with Doc and Darryl, like the photo above). Tyson even presented Knight with a set of his boxing gloves as a gift, and signed them "From one slugger to another", alluding to Knight's fight with Eric Davis.

Now in this picture, Ray is assuming the same defensive stance I would if Mike Tyson were anywhere near me....with a bat.

The New New York Mets are the Blernsball team http://futurama.wikia.com/wiki/New_New_York_Mets

Don't I know it. I'm a big Futurama fan and love that episode. Leela needs a baseball card.
|
Zvon Feb 08 2016 04:27 AM Re: 1986 |
I'm making a Leela blernsball card and of course, I'm getting carried away. Hank Aaron the 23rd should get a card, as well as Jackie Anderson. The Mets new owner was Abner Doubledeal, lolol. And I just realized I will need to design a New New York Mets team logo for the card. How kool is that?
|
El Segundo Escupidor Feb 08 2016 07:24 AM Re: 1986 |

It's not like Blernsball was devoid of racist logos. [fimg=400]http://peterparkerpa.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Mars-Greenskins.jpg[/fimg]
|
Zvon Feb 08 2016 11:06 AM Re: 1986 |
That's great work. I'm gonna want to use that Blernsball logo. I don't think one can be made much better than that one. PeterParkerPA created that. Very kool.

Edgy MD Feb 22 2016 03:43 PM Re: 1986 |
Looks like the 1986 threads are going to be the 2016 Sunday home standard.
|
Centerfield Feb 22 2016 04:44 PM Re: 1986 |
I don't like it. Once in a while is ok. This is overkill.
|
Edgy MD Feb 22 2016 04:53 PM Re: 1986 |
Well, Sundays at home suggest approximately 7.5-8.0% of the time. Is that overkill?
|
G-Fafif Feb 22 2016 06:29 PM Re: 1986 |
Mets following the example of White Sox and Pirates who wear their beloved throwbacks every home Sunday (and Brewers, who kicked off the trend by wearing the early '80s look on Friday nights c. 2007).

shut up, I love it. more racing stripes! MORE!!!
|
dgwphotography Feb 22 2016 07:30 PM Re: 1986 |
The problem I'm going to have with the racing stripe jersey will be the implementation on the 2016 style of jersey.
