Mets will be wearing 1986 uniforms multiple times throughout the season.

I don't know that this is a good idea. They're going to smell pretty bad even after just a game or two.

Re: 1986

No, I think you misunderstand me.

The Mets are going to be wearing a total of 1986 uniforms throughout the season.

Blue tops and white pants. Black tops and gray pants. Orange socks. ORANGE SOCKS! The combinations will seem endless, with the team changing several times during a given game, but will in fact top out at 1,986.

Re: 1986

Aesthetically, I don't really care for those uniforms, but they sure do bring back great memories. It will be kind of nice to see, once in a while, David Wright and Jacob deGrom and all the others in those uniforms.

(I seem to think I've seen David Wright in the "piped" uniform before. I guess they've used them for a throwback once or twice in the past?)

How about they wear these uniforms?

According to Wikipedia, the team colors of the 19th Century New York Mets were teal, black, and white.

Me: Ok. This sounds great. Can one of those combinations include First Responder hats for the 9/11 game?

Powers that be: Absolutely not.

The matching belts are quite impressive. I think the NEW New York Mets (from 1962 to 1976) had a BYOB policy.

Mex's complaint was about the fabric, not the aesthetic, iirc.

I'm assuming the fabric will be up to modern coolbase-y standards. And if not... Eh, they're still freaking awesome.

I think Keith preferred the traditional look -- buttons all the way up and down the jersey and no racing stripes.

How were the team colors teal when the name of the color wasn't coined until 30 years later after they played?

There's a lot of things to get on the Wilpey's about but a thirty-year
anniversary sprinkled with some games with retro uniforms isn't a bad
thing.
Plenty of new history; they did win the pennant and 2016 looks promising.

Roster size of 12. Love it. Can you imagine walking into this group and saying "Ok, with innings limits and such, all of you are going to have to pitch. And in September, we are going to expand the roster more and get more pitchers so that your arms don't get taxed.

Notice how Ray Knight, the one who was actually trained to box, wanted no part of Tyson.

Tyson would see him strike an authentic boxing stance and the instincts would take over.

That's not true. Tyson visited the Mets at Shea that season, in part, to specifically meet Ray Knight (the visit was documented in various publicity shots depicting Tyson play-punching it out with Doc and Darryl, like the photo above). Tyson even presented Knight with a set of his boxing gloves as a gift, and signed them "From one slugger to another", alluding to Knight's fight with Eric Davis.

Don't I know it.
I'm a big Futurama fan and love that episode. Leela needs a baseball card.

Re: 1986

I'm making a Leela blernsball card and of course, I'm getting carried away. Hank Aaron the 23rd should get a card, as well as Jackie Anderson. The Mets new owner was Abner Doubledeal, lolol. And I just realized I will need to design a New New York Mets team logo for the card. How kool is that?
I didn't notice the business with the Braves uni back when. That's pretty classic.

It's not like Blernsball was devoid of racist logos.

That's great work. I'm gonna want to use that Blernsball logo. I don't think one can be made much better than that one. PeterParkerPA created that. Very kool.

The thing on Hanks chest under the Braves is a Trident. Poseidon, god of the sea, carried one. I believe the logic involved might stem from a different Futurama episode where we find that the fabled city of Atlanta sunk under the sea.

Mets following the example of White Sox and Pirates who wear their beloved throwbacks every home Sunday (and Brewers, who kicked off the trend by wearing the early '80s look on Friday nights c. 2007).

Re: 1986

The problem I'm going to have with the racing stripe jersey will be the implementation on the 2016 style of jersey.

From what I've read, this season, all jerseys will have a triangle-shaped mesh fabric leading to the belt line from under the armpit. this will mean no pinstripes or stripes on the sides.

On Edit: Not triangle shaped, but a long strip down the side:
