Adopted: Edgar Alfonzo

Young Fonzie has been assigned to short-season ball four straight seasons now and I'm sick of it. Hell, I'm fed up. He's like the king of extended spring training. I'm adopting him and if he doesn't get an assignment out of camp then I'm calling them every damn night. At dinnertime.

And the Baseball Cube isn't exactly giving him any more respect by crediting him with batting statistics his uncles or brothers or whoever put up. Yeah, he got 310 at-bats with Midland at 11 years old. Good call.

I'm pleased my guy could be part of your guy's moment.

Edgar keeps saying, "So this is what spring baseball is like."

Edgy Jr. has a mediocre 4.50 ERA as a St. Lucie Met. "Mediocre?" I say to him, "You're an Alfonzo, and Alfonzos stand out!"

He hates me now.

Edgar is grooving right now in St. Lucie, as he celebrates the return of Tio Edgardo. He's been setting up closer Carlos Muniz, adopted by A Boy Named Seo, and a winning streak by St. Lucie helped him to pick up wins in consecutive games over July 4th weekend.

That is, solidly enough to get promoted, but not so much to get him on the prospect track. Got to fan more guys. Still, those numbers will keep moving him steadily forward as long as he is lefthanded.

Whether or not minor league strikeouts are important or not depends on what the pitcher throws. Roger McDowell didn't have high strikeout totals, but threw an effective sinker.
Cy Younger Roy Halliday didn't put up overwhelming minor league K totals either, despite all the scouting reports talking about his "great stuff".

Ya' never know until ya' know more.
