D-Dad and I saw Transamerica the other night. It was a good film - it tells the story of a man on the verge of a sex change operation who discovers that A) he fathered a child in his youth, and B) that child is motherless and troubled and needs his help. Stanley/Bree reluctantly travels cross country to meet his son and brings the boy back West. I don't want to give away more of the plot than this.

It's a good, although not superlative film. Felicity Huffman stars as Stanley/Bree, and she is Reese Whitherspoon's biggest competition for this year's Best Actress Oscar, IMO (both actresses won Golden Globes, and Whitherspoon won the SAG).

It's a story well told, although it's a bit slow in places. Imperfect, but interesting. Not intended for action/adventure fans - it's a relationship film.

Saw it on video last night. Felcitiy Huffman was quite good but hard to believe the set-up (the therapist ordering her to bail out her son across the country as a quid pro quo for a sexchange operation). Much of the movie is the two characters, but the scenes with other characters were better. Keep the supporting actors on the screen! (other than the therapist).
