I don't understand why Nike can't deliver the shoe on time. They pay their people 30 cents an hour. For that kind of dough, they should expect results.

This could be serious. Dizzy Dean suffered a career ending arm injury when he modified his pitching motion to relieve the pain from a broken toe. I'd guess that there have been major advances in Orthopedic medicine since then. But with Nike late in delivering that special shoe for Pedro, I hope he waits before trying to pitch without it.

Yet he's still going at it in the WBC.

I hope the Mets have a good 2007.

Huh. I thought Nike was supposed to do a fitting of the shoes in the DR about two weeks ago, then make whatever adjustments Petey wanted, then finish them off.

They haven't even gotten a propotype to him yet?

Fuckers.

I wouldn't trust Nike to create a medical device even if they delivered it a month early. There's no where else that he can get this shoe made?

]A Nike spokesman said Tuesday that Martinez would definitely receive his shoes Wednesday.

Pedro is right, Nike are getting way too much publicity from this, and they don't deserve it, so does Pedro go to the WBC,he seems noncommittal right now.

I think this is a tempest in a teapot. According to one article the shoe was set to be ready by the time camp opened, but not necessarily Pedro's arrival -- which would be Thursday.

I think PM is such that any little worry sets the media off. Last year at this time it was "Pedro's shoulder is hanging by a string!" (a line Jon Heyman repeated this morning) and "Pedro might be great, but he HATES Mike Piazza!" Neither of those things turned out to be true.

This toe thing is worrysome.

If I was makin that kind of doe,
Id just lob off my toe.
And get a wooden one.

Then be known as Pedro "Pegtoe" Martinez for the rest of my career.

(Hows that for a nickname, Val?) ;)

If the pain comes from him dragging that toe, I don't see how a shoe will alleviate it.

Get a shoe where the shock isn't absorbed in the toe when he comes down on it.

In a world where it seems one pitcher in three has had his pitching elbow rebuilt with pieces from another part of him, the idea that the toe couldn't be improved medically is frustrating.

do you really hink they are trusting the 3cents/hr workers in china to build pedro's special shoe? the reason it hasn't arrived yet is because they used union labor so the guys are done building it but they are out taking a 6-hour coffee break before they ship it.

Pedro got the shoe but he's not happy with it...
