Little Prauge: the 2005-06 NY Rangers

I can't believe I let the season get this far without starting a thread. Holy crap, who are these guys?. 3 point lead in the Atlantic Division going into the Olympic break, after being the preseason pick for dead last. Unbelievable group of people.

- Jagr's attitude change, suddenly he's modest and a team player. Which is nice, but not as nice as leading the NHL in goals and points.

- Henrik Lundqvist, rock star. Rookie with the entire fanbase in the palm of his hand. One of the top goalies in the NHL so far, and he just keeps getting better.

- The Ortmeyer-Ward-Hollweg line. Tons of fun. Ortmeyer is a shot blocking machine, Ward will do anything he's asked of, and Hollweg picks fights with guys who are a foot bigger than him.

It's been a storybook season so far. Here's to it staying that way.

I was going to start a thread at the start of the season but then I saw an Islander one and figured we had a bunch Islander fans here, anyway I'm loving this Ranger season, best thing that happened them was the lock-out, Renney and his staff are great and Sather taking a back seat role has helped.

I love the Gone in Sixty Minutes telecasts. I watch them more often than the live casts.

How about the race for the Calder Trophy? Good god is it great this year! I mean, how can you choose between Lundqvist, Ovechkin, and Crosby? It's seriously a toss-up for me at this point.

Forget the Calder, Lundqvist is in contention for the Vezina. 1st in SV% (I'm not counting Boston's Tim Thomas, who only played 17 games) , 3rd in GAA, 7th in Wins with less games played than 5 of the guys ahead of him.

The fact that Messier retired I think was big for this Ranger team, guys like Ward and Moore probably wouldn't get a chance if vets like Messier and Holik were still around.I give Sather some credit here too, bringing in guys that Jagr is familiar with(they can play too) was a good move, Steve Rucchin is another good move, but for me the coaching staff are outstanding.

What is it with Sather et al bringing in these foreigners-- Jagr, Malek, Lundquist-- he must be as prejudiced against Americans as Minaya.
