I read somewhere that the average length of a movie title is 17 letters.

So how many movies are there with exactly 17 letters in the title?

I start off with a couple:

FIVE GRAVES TO CAIRO
BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK

I'm so vain, I'll bet I thought this thread was about me
About me? About me?

I thought this was about the long vanished poster Seventeen (later Thirteen).

I thought it was about the classic Winger song seventeen....

Seventeen, seventeen

Cool and solid seventeen

Young enough to dance and sing

Old enough to get that swing

Past sixteen, just been kissed

Graduated and got that twist

Kind of love I can't resist

At seventeen

Now, sloppy shirt, old blue-jeans

Dirty shoes by all means

Catchup blonde, peroxide hair

Juke-box baby, ain't no square

Seventeen, hot rod queen

Cutest girl you've ever seen

Tell the world I'm really keen

On my hep-cat doll of seventeen

I ain't goin' to school
It starts too early for me
Well listen man
I ain't goin' to school no more
It starts much, much too early for me
I don't care about readin'
Writin', 'rithmetic or history

I'm gonna walk to the corner
And meet my little Marie
I'm gonna walk to the corner
And meet my little Marie
Well, she's the only girl
In this whole world who understands me

Well, she's sexy and seventeen
My little rock-roll queen
Acts a little bit obscene
Gotta let off a little steam
Dig that sound
And shake it around your mind, mind, mind

Johnny and Eddie and me and Jimmy and Jack
Are gonna do a little number
On the teacher when she turns her back
We're gonna cut out of class
Meet the girls by the railroad track

Well, ev'ry Friday night
There's a band that you gotta hear
Just a dollar to get in
And twenty-five cents a beer
They play rock and roll music
Like it hasn't been rocked for years

Well she's sexy and seventeen
My little rock-roll queen
Acts a little bit obscene
Gotta let off a little steam
Dig that sound
And shake it around
Your mind, mind, mind

Looking back now those lyrics are a bit perverted, she's only 17 Kip....

You know, you'd assume that the hair metal guy would post the Winger lyrics.

But no. Those are actually "She's Sexy + 17" by the Stray Cats.

For a little more perverted, I give you Big Joe Turner:

Hey little schoolgirl, are you goin' my way?
Hey little schoolgirl, are you goin' my way?
Let me carry your books home baby, feel so good today,

Johnny Dickshot
Feb 24 2006 01:55 PM

Is Joe Turner's song also the Steve Forbert song?

School girl won't you talk to me,
Show a little hospitality,
I'm a lonesome stranger in your college town baby,
School girl won't you walk me round

School girl with your fancy looks
Hey baby let me tote your books
Won't you try a little love you can't go wrong , darlin',
School girl let me walk you home

Its a hey (hey!) hey (hey!)
Hey! yes and the sun is sinking down its a going away
Its a hey (hey!) hey (hey!)
Every nighttime is the right time to say ok

School girl let me help you please
Have you studied bout the birds and the bees?
You can write a little paper on the rites of spring , baby
School girl sha la la la lee

Its a hey (hey!) hey (hey!)
And the sun is sinking down and its going away
Its a hey (hey!) hey (hey!)
Yes and the night time is the right time to say ok
Ground me..

School girl tell me what you say
Hey baby don't you turn away
Stop thinking don't you want a romance,
School girl give me half a chance

Its a hey (hey!) hey (hey!)
Hey yes and the sun is sinking down its a going away
Its a hey (hey!) hey (hey!)
Every nighttime is the right time to say ok

School girl give me half a chance.

Here is one of my two favorite jailbait songs -- with the "ooh baby" moaned orgasmically, Donna Summer - style.

But, baby
(Baby, don't let them tell I'm too young)
Such a pretty baby

So Young, my teenage love
So Young, my darlin'
(Oooh, baby)
Oh, how I desire your lips warm as fire
And the thrill when you're near me
(Fire baby)
As our love may grow
It will hurt me I know
For our love can never be

(Oooh)
Sweetheart, I want you so bad
This love is driving me mad
But what can I do

So young, too-oo young
That's what they tell me
(Oooh baby)
Oh, I know that I'll cry
And I know that I'll die
When they take you away from me
(Such a pretty baby)

I'm feeling so blue
For I know that it's true
I can never have you

Sweetheart, I want you so bad
This love is driving me mad
But what can I do

So young, too-oo young
That's what they tell me
(Oooh, baby)
Oh, I know that I'll cry
And I know that I'll die
When they take you away from me
(Such a pretty baby)

I'm feeling so blue
For I know that it's true
I can never have you

(Ooooh, baby)

Here's the other one. By Andre Williams:

I'm runnin', yes before it's too late
Tryin' to get away from that jailbait.
It's a rough temptation
But a common inclination
For a good association
But a quick elimination
That will take you out of circulation.
Yes, I'm talkin' about that younger generation.
So take my advice brothers
For goodness sake
15, 16, 17 is jailbait.

Now they swear that they're in love
That you and her are stars above
And she's lookin' mighty good
Just like a young girl should
I tried to tell you no
To let that young girl go
But you, you know it all
You have yourself a ball
And now that it is too late
As you look from Cell Number 8
I tried to tell you, mate
17 1/2 is still jailbait.

So tomorrow's the date
For the trial of jailbait.
And just you watch and see
That young girl will go free
And you'll get one to three.
So out the door she walks
To another man she talks
And before you can count
From one to eight
Another man in for jailbait.

(spoken) Please hear what I say and let me go, Mister Judge. I ain't gonna mess with young girls no more. Ain't gonna bother none 15...Ain't gonna bother none 16...Ain't gonna bother none 19...I'm gonna find me a nice gal around 43. Please hear what I say and let me go, Mister Judge. I ain't gonna mess with young girls no more...

Boy, how quickly they forget Janis Ian.....

"At Seventeen"

I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear skinned smiles
Who married young and then retired
The valentines I never knew
The Friday night charades of youth
Were spent on one more beautiful
At seventeen I learned the truth
And those of us with ravaged faces
Lacking in the social graces
Desperately remained at home
Inventing lovers on the phone
Who called to say - come dance with me
And murmured vague obscenities
It isn't all it seems at seventeen
A brown eyed girl in hand me downs
Whose name I never could pronounce
Said-pity please the ones who serve
They only get what they deserve
The rich relationed hometown queen
Marries into what she needs
With a guarantee of company
And haven for the elderly
Remember those who win the game
Lose the love they sought to gain
In debentures of quality and dubious integrity
Their small town eyes will gape at you
In dull surprise when payment due
Exceeds accounts received at seventeen
To those of us who knew the pain
Of valentines that never came
And those whose names were never called
When choosing sides for basketball
It was long ago and far away
The world was younger than today
When dreams were all they gave for free
To ugly duckling girls like me
We all play the game, and when we dare
To cheat ourselves at solitaire
Inventing lovers on the phone
Repenting other lives unknown
Who call and say - come dance with me
And murmur vague obsceneties
To ugly girls like me, at seventeen.

Song is written by Paul McCartney, but the pertinent lyric was provided by John Lennon

Well, she was just 17,
You know what I mean,

And the way she looked was way beyond compare.
So how could I dance with another (ooh)
And I saw her standin’ there.

Well she looked at me, and i, I could see
That before too long I’d fall in love with her.
She wouldn’t dance with another (whooh)
And I saw her standin’ there.

Well, my heart went boom,
When I crossed that room,
And I held her hand in mine...

Whoah, we danced through the night,
And we held each other tight,
And before too long I fell in love with her.
Now I’ll never dance with another (whooh)
Since I saw her standing there

Well, my heart went boom,
When I crossed that room,
And I held her hand in mine...

Whoah, we danced through the night,
And we held each other tight,
And before too long I fell in love with her.
Now I’ll never dance with another (whooh)
Since I saw her standing there

1--Well, she was one of the first of the rock era to not hide her sexuality.
2--She did a great version of her song with newly scripted lyrics (from the Howard Stern Show writers) about Mets fan Jerry Seinfeld robbing the cradle with Shoshanna.
3--She's got a great voice still worth checking out when she plays jazz venues and the like.

Patchy - while I can't disagree with your points, when I hear her name I can only think of the whinefest that is At Seventeen.

Well, yeah, ditto. My record collection doesn't contain any of her albums, either. But, her voice is unique and she's based out of NYC.

There was also 'Society's Child' which she penned and sang when she was not yet seventeen herself. It sounds somewhat tame and dated now but, at the time (1968?), it was controversial enough to get banned from a number of radio stations for it's "shocking" subject matter of inter-racial high schoold dating.

Come to my door, baby,
Face is clean and shining black as night.
My mother went to answer you know
That you looked so fine.

Now I could understand your tears and your shame,
She called you "boy" instead of your name.
When she wouldn't let you inside,
When she turned and said
"But honey, he's not our kind."

She says I can't see you any more, baby,
Can't see you anymore.

Walk me down to school, baby,
Everybody's acting deaf and blind.
Until they turn and say,
"Why don't you stick to your own kind."

My teachers all laugh, their smirking stares,
Cutting deep down in our affairs.
Preachers of equality,
Think they believe it,
Then why won't they just let us be?

They say I can't see you anymore baby,
Can't see you anymore.

One of these days I'm gonna stop my listening,
Gonna raise my head up high.
One of these days I'm gonna raise up my glistening wings and fly.

But that day will have to wait for a while.
Baby I'm only society's child.
When we're older things may change,
But for now this is the way they must remain.

I say I can't see you anymore baby,
Can't see you anymore.
No, I don't want to see you anymore, baby.
