Carlos Torres has a different ride from last year.

Re: Batmobile

I like that it's parked next to Harvey's ding-a-ling. Harvey thought he was coming to camp and making a statement with his ride, and it ends up looking quotidian next to his neighbor's toy racer.

If you're going to be ostentatious and gaudy and wasteful, dice Céspedes, at least show some panache.

Re: Batmobile

I'm joking. 52 — and presumably the parking spot marked by the number 52 — belonged to Carlos Torres last year, and this year belongs to Yoenis Cespedes who clearly punches in a very different weight class.

I'm pretty sure I would drive a restored '67 Camaro. Though I can see myself going the super-douchy rap star giant black SUV route too. With spinning rims.

Any car I drive would have neon blue underlighting.

i always liked the '69 better.

but if I were to go down that route, I would have two choices:

1. fully restored AMC AMX, 1970, in glorious red white and blue.
2. resto-modded AMC Eagle Wagon, preferably an '83 (but they were nigh identical from 80-88) - the original Subaru outback - with a fully upgraded powertrain and suspension, and gloriously modernized interior replete with blue plaid seats.

Fine choice Kong. I bought a dark green 1968 Mustang Convertible (black top and interior) from a family friend in the fall of 1974. It was my first car and I kept it until the winter of 1984 when I had to sell it to help finance my last few months of optometry school. Damn, I loved that car!

I was gonna say.

The 'sploding Pinto story was broken by Mother Jones, not NBC. I tend to doubt MJ had the budget in the early 70's to rig a car to explode and then film it.

Frayed Knot

Re: Batmobile

I don't believe NBC was breaking news no matter which car/truck it was - those crap magazine shows rarely do.
They were just taking an existing news story and demonstrating how easily such an explosion/fire could be reproduced before likely deciding that it would have been boring for their audience if the vehicle didn't actually blow up.
So they rig the demo so as to 'prove' to their viewers that it's virtually a guaranteed occurrence and then pretend to have no knowledge of what the (biased) outside consultant was doing if and when it all gets exposed.

First cars, then three-wheelers... now he's splurging on world-class choppers.

According to one of his companions that evening, the Mets outfielder "was in a bidding war" at an auction for the champion swine, with proceeds going to charity. No word on exactly how much Cespedes spent, but hogs typically sell for significantly less than Lamborghinis.
