CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016

Once again this year we have 11 participants, which is awkward, so hoping for a 12th.

|
Edgy MD Feb 23 2016 05:09 PM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |
Any number one-point tiles would have completed his bingo, but he works off the T in CHESTY and cleverly bridges two DWS squares to get the coveted quadruple word score.

Prodding LWFS along in our intro match, currently I am leading 280-223 with 21 tiles left. Big play was the bingo FODDERS, by me (both the F and E were blanks), with the S on NIT to make SNIT and catch a TWS in the process for 75 points.

Edgy MD Mar 07 2016 11:04 AM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |

I got lucky. I did a two-tile trade-in and then pulled the two tiles I needed for the most classick and obvious of bingos: RETINAS. I then drew GIKNSU_ out of the bag and immediately saw SUCKING. Pure luck by a player who is otherwise in a deep Scrabble slump. It could happen to you!
|
Chad Ochoseis Mar 07 2016 11:17 AM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |
|
I have two tiles left on my rack and Willets has three. I was well behind throughout the game, but pulled a 79 point AGONIST out of my bum a couple of turns ago and am now up 381-355. I am by no means counting Willets out.
|
Mets Willets Point Mar 07 2016 02:10 PM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |
I thought I had it sewn up when I played MIAOW on a triple word score and we both had just a handful of tiles on our racks, but then Chad dropped SIX for a 49-point swing. There was no way I could answer that with only three tiles! The better man won.

Was able to get nine points on my last turn, down 15, with 'AX' and get the six points in Ceet's hand, which ended up being the difference in the game. I scored the bingo DENTOID but aside from that played with mostly crappy tiles. My best play otherwise was building WREN to also make FEE and ERN. Final score Fman 350, Ceetar 346. Well played, sir. Challenge to JCL is coming up.

Ceetar Mar 10 2016 09:30 AM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |

yeah. Good game. (who do I play now?) My downfall was playing the MIC on the triple word score to exhaust the bag while still holding the J. It left me with JOSEGNK and very few places to play the J and the K. Even on the very last turn I was desperately looking for a places to play KEGS and couldn't find one. (I opted to dump the J on the JO on the right rather than play KI/KEG for 18 because I didn't see anywhre else to put the J.

|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Mar 13 2016 09:12 AM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |
I took a big lead in the early innings with good draws and a good board but FMan put up some points too (WICCAN, TROUTINGS) and made it a game. What sealed the victory was a late-board play COZ/LOP/APE for 34 after he'd pulled close. 407-343 is your final score.

Chad Ochoseis Mar 13 2016 04:58 PM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |

You'll be playing Marathon. Nice, well fought game. I hit early with SPLICERS; he hit late with UNBRAIDS. And a late SUQ by Marathon suqked for me. I'm down by 15 with two tiles left and no rabbits to pull out of my hat. I'm traveling and don't always have scrabble handy, so it may be a day before it's official.
|
Chad Ochoseis Mar 14 2016 10:47 PM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |

John Cougar Lunchbucket Mar 15 2016 07:20 AM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |

OK, Marathon challenges me in the winners' bracket final. Ochoseis chills for a round or two. We need a Michigan-Ceetar winner first. That winner plays Edgy, and that winner faces Ochoseis. Let's also get an update on: LWFS v Willets SMG v Seawolf Those winners play, that winner draws FMan.

|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Mar 22 2016 10:15 AM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |

You wait while 6 other games get played. You will play either me or who beats me in my next game. First we need the LWFS-Willets winner to play the SMG-Seawolf winner. That winner faces Fman. We also need the Michigan-Ceter winner to play Edgy. That winner faces Ochoseis. Then the winners of Fman and Ochoseis' next game play, with that winner facing me, then you. If you lose that game, it's a rematch for all the marbles.

Despite the fact that I keep doing stupid shit, the tile gods have been good to me, so the current score is Ochoseis 296, Ceetar 249. 24 tiles left. Ceetar played JOUSTER with two blanks. I've played ATELIERS and CENTERS. No blanks, but those ERS combinations make life very easy.
|
Ceetar Apr 01 2016 02:34 PM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |

ugh, it was close last I looked what'd you do?! I knew I'd ultimately end up regretting JOUSTER with the two blanks and the s and the j. very few useful pieces since.

Chad Ochoseis Apr 01 2016 03:11 PM Re: CPF Scrabble WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 |
Bingoed with CENTERS. I played it last turn, but hooked the R off HOLE to play HOLER, which I thought was good. It wasn't, so I had to pass and hope that I could find a legal spot for CENTERS this turn. I did, but there's now a nice fat triple word score waiting for you when you get back to the game.
