2016/04/05 IGT Game #2: Mets at Royals (Gay Dame)

Tuesday 4 PM start time, which more or less fucks up every errand I have to run between those hours. Syndergaard vs Mets castoff/gargantuan pituitary case Chris Young.

Syndergaard will be fine. We likely will need help from the bullpen and bats.

I get out of work at 4, which, theoretically, is good, except that I'll need to get in a workout, and then get Fboy to LL practice from 6-7, and then, somewhere in that time frame, also get some dinner prep and cooking done. Will be watching while home and listening on XM while in transit.

see, it's timing like this which is why I want a freaking tv in my kitchen that the wife keeps vetoing. I've got the perfect wall space for it too. Just to the left of my aunt here. Drill through the wall into the stairwell for the wires and the cable box and mount the TV right there on the wall. perfect.

Correct. I watch nearly every game on delay after DVR recording and can get through a typical nine inning game in about an hour and a half by skipping commercials and walk-ups.

While not a Must WinŽ, I'm declaring this a Big GameŽ: Early season Test Of CharacterŽ against the kind of right-handed slowballer we should be able to crush, behind the smart pick for NL Cy Young.

Looking for 7+ runs this afternoon for us and fewer than 2 for them. That would indicate we know what we're doing out there.

NY Mets at Kansas City
When: 4:15 PM ET, Tuesday, April 5, 2016
Where: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
SportsDirect Inc.

New York Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard ruffled some feathers when he faced the Kansas City Royals in Game 3 of the World Series, adding an element of intrigue when he opposes the world champs again Tuesday in Kansas City. Syndergaard buzzed Royals leadoff hitter Alcides Escobar with the first pitch of that start last October, prompting some sharp comments from Kansas City players at the time and some whispers of retaliation leading into the teams' season-opening two-game series.

"I simply threw a pitch on the inside corner," Syndergaard told reporters recently when the topic came up. "Elevated. A purpose pitch. I don't really see how any retaliation could be made." The Royals really have no need to do anything but play their game, which was enough to claim the World Series in five games and to open the regular season Sunday night with a 4-3 win in a Fall Classic rematch. New York left fielder Yoenis Cespedes committed a key error in the first game of a season in which he will make $27.5 million, the Mets went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and Kansas City starter Edinson Volquez allowed two hits in six scoreless frames. The Royals were slated to start newcomer Ian Kennedy opposite Syndergaard, but a hamstring issue late in spring training forced Kennedy's start to be pushed back, giving Chris Young the nod Tuesday.

TV: 4:15 p.m. ET, MLB Network, SNY (New York), FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Mets RH Noah Syndergaard (2015: 9-7, 3.24 ERA) vs. Royals RH Chris Young (2015: 11-6, 3.06)

Syndergaard hit the ground running after his debut last May, finishing the regular season with back-to-back double-digit strikeout performances and holding his own in the postseason. He was rather pedestrian on the road, however, with a 2-5 record and a 4.23 ERA in 12 such starts. The 23-year-old, who also has a 5.86 ERA in five starts against American League teams, had 20 strikeouts against one walk in 20 2/3 innings this spring.

Young, who owns a 6.05 ERA in four career starts versus New York, had a 3.18 mark in 18 starts last year, the bulk of which took place before the trade deadline. The 6-10 veteran got the win with three dominant innings of relief in a 14-inning victory in Game 1 of the World Series and gave his team four innings in a Game 4 start. Five current Mets have faced Young and they are a combined 2-for-28 against him.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Royals 1B Eric Hosmer was 3-for-4 with an RBI in the opener and has seven RBIs in six games versus the Mets since the start of the World Series.
2. Cespedes is a .232 hitter with four RBIs and 19 strikeouts in 26 career games against Kansas City.
3. Including the postseason, Royals closer RHP Wade Davis has not allowed a run in his last 13 appearances.

I'd say the former happens sooner than the latter, although I'd also accept Wright betting 7th.

I'm not sure it's all about paychecks so much as the idea of trying what's ideal first, and going to what's practical only if/when the ideal doesn;t reveal itself.

I am actually going to try this -- usually my disincentive is fantasy baseball related, I have to log on between 6:30 and 7 to set my lineup, and then I generally also see the score of the game when doing so -- but my lineup is already all set, since there are enough teams not playing today.

That said, it may speak to the pitchers' faith in their offense that they go for the strikeouts with a runner in scoring position in the first.

Morales dribbles to d'Arnaud, and that ends it. Mets win! Familia looking good.

Like Edgy said, he surrounded that ball so even if he flubbed it he had it in front of him. With Muff, 50/50 that woulda been a man on first.
Walkers quick to the ball too, good hands with the bat. And nary a worry on DPs. I will always miss Murphy but I do think things will at least even out there.

Exciting times when Syndergaard goes. I'm more thrilled watching him than Hovvey.

Best case scenario -- a rivalry develops.

THOUGHTS!!!!

- That big Viking is going to be a sum'bitch this year (and quite possibly for a while after that as well)

- It's a home-run, Mr. Walker, it's a home-run.

- Nice penning from Hendu, Reed, and Familyman. 9-up/9-down

The DVR plan mostly worked out -- except that I could only set it for the 3 hour window that SNY had, and so I was not able to get the bottom of the 9th.

Having said that, the K of Morales on three sliders was great. Gives the Mets some good vibes to take back to the Citi with them.

The last two DVR options I've had automatically give me the option of extending the recording past the allotted window on any program that's marked 'Live' which is a must-use option if you don't think you're going to "catch up" before the ending.
And if you don't have that option you simply record whatever program is scheduled for the next window on that channel and maybe even the next after that one. Baseball is too unpredictable in length.

Finally watching on DVR (the complete game, thanks to extend-the-live-event Fios DVRin'), and hooooo boy, will Thorsdays be delightful.

Leadoff runners? No problem.

Leadoff triples? F*ck it, I'm fine.

Bases loaded, roaring crowd? Nah, all good.

I set the DVR from work on my phone app, which does not present an option to extend the recording.

I only thought of recording the next show much later in the day, too late to capture the ending. Oh well. Live and learn.
