Going to the Game in 2016

Mar 24 2016 05:55 PM

Yes, we're only ten days away from real beisbol.

I'll be wearing my Mets duds to Progressive Field on April 15th (sec 130, lower box in short right field). If I don't get my ass kicked that day by roving hordes of Indians fans, I'll wash those duds and wear them again on April 16 (sec 169, lower box in very short left).

"Progressive Field?"

I didn't realize that it's no longer Jacobs Field.

Oh well. At least it once had a non-corporate name, so fans can opt to call it by a name other than one from a paid sponsor.

I'll be there most but not all Tuesday nights in the Prom.

Our family roadtrip has shifted a bunch of times but the current target is St. Louis in August. I'm gonna be a complete DICK out there.

Re: Going to the Game in 2016

April 8, April 13, April 30, May 21, May 28 and July 30th.

So far. And probably a game our two in Philly, but we haven't planned that far yet.

Plus the B-Mets in Trenton for a game or two over Father's Day Weekend (their only trip to Trenton this season).

Re: Going to the Game in 2016

At this point I have no plans. I expect I'll be making the trip to see a weekend game in May or June. I tend to get to an average of one Mets home game per year, and sometimes I catch a road game. (2014 was a big year for me, by recent standards. One game at Citi Field, and four Mets road games, two in Pittsburgh and two in Seattle.)

Officially going to Opening Day at the low low price of $85.50. bleh. That's premier dynamic pricing for you. that's the cheapest section atm and Stub Hub is still at least $10 more than that.

Getting push back on bringing the little one though.

Re: Going to the Game in 2016

I'm excited that I'll potentially get to see the Mets at least three times this year! A combination of playing the AL Central teams and some nice weekend scheduling is a big help.

We'll be at that Saturday Cleveland at Progressive -- which is actually a very, very nice ballpark.

Then, we'll be at one of the Milwaukee games. I like that ballpark, too.

And, I'll hit at least one of the Detroit games, no matter what day of the week.

In the non-Mets game variety, I'm helping my parents in Florida for a little bit. Just missing all the spring training action, which is a bummer. But we're going to the Marlins home opener on Tuesday.

And, we have a nice state announcement to make next Sunday at Comerica. Good stuff.

My daughter wants to see Washington, DC sometime this summer. I'll plan that trip around a game, but don't know if we can catch the Mets.

Lots of new stamps for my MLB Pass-Port!

Would love to catch up with any Crane Poolers at any of the Mets games.

So we were misinformed about last night's exciting win. We ended up
getting tickets to The Hyundai Club which pretty decent but the seats
were outside (sweet location, close but just high enough so that you
can really see everything) but we were a little under-dressed. We had
access to a decent free spread and soft drinks and a cash bar. And heat.
These tickets were complimentary but it looks like we might be able to
buy 2 or 4 tickets from this guy from time to time.

sorry, I wasn't really paying attention or I could've told you that. the Hyundai Club is that jutted out section just to the left or right of the Wilpon boxes behind home plate right? I think I peeked in there for the St. Johns game before they limited club access and it was still called the Champions Club. seemed like a pretty tiny place, but nice vantage point for the game .

Also, because I live upstate and don't know the answer, my buddy is riding down with us and then planning on taking the train into Manhattan to meet his family for a long weekend -- can he just walk up to the 7 train gate (it is the 7, right?) after the game and buy his ticket, and walk on there with a suitcase? Or does he need to buy his ticket in advance, or is there an advantage to doing so?

I don't know the trains well enough to be able to say -- aside from taking the Metro North in and out of Manhattan from Poughkeepsie, I have not ever ridden in or out of the city on a subway.

Re: Going to the Game in 2016

I left extra time in my biztrip this week to check out Target Field. Poor Twins had a 5-0 lead on Dallas Kuechel on Wednesday night only to be rained out (like, no joke, 5 or 6 inches of rain fell). I went to the regularly scheduled Camp Day game yesterday, Astros took a 6-0 lead after 2 then pulled away, so much so that the Twins brought in shortstop Eduardo Escoabar who pitched a scoreless inning. Astros were killing the ball all day but only managed weak contact vs, Escobar, mostly shallow line drives.

I didn't stick around for Game 2, but the Astros crushed them then also.

Twins' Kennys Vargas, who's a gigantic guy, had 2 HRs in the loss.

Twins look awful in their all-red jerseys but I realized it was probably a Target thing.

Very readable scoreboards, a plus. Hard to see bullpens a minus. That they play Peter Cetera's "Glory of Love" during Kiss Cam, big minus.

I'm pretty immune to new-stadium-ness. It's nice like most new parks are, and the staff were all "Minnesota nice." Let me stash my suitcase at guest services. I sat right in front of the "Two Gingers" bar which gave me relief from the sun. Food choices were 'eh.' Had a turkey sammish and a local IPA. Best thing about the park was access to the train, it's right downtown, skyline over RCF. Took the train from downtown St. Paul where my meting was to the park, then from the park to the airport, all for $5.

In St. Paul I had beers at "Tom Reid's Hockey Town" bar. Reid was a North Stars player and owns the distinction of being the only player ever to score a penalty shot on Ken Dryden. Was also a broadcaster. Just a stoopit amount of hockey stuff on the walls.

Hence, "Kennys." He contains multitudes.

Their stadium seems to have a unique shape. Does the shell/shape feel or look a little funny from the inside?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Aug 15 2016 10:55 AM
Re: Going to the Game in 2016

Funny shape? Unless round is funny...

No, I didn't notice much odd in the inside. I guess it's a pretty "tight" stadium overall, they stack those outfield seats up pretty high. And as I said I was surprised to realize how "downtown" it was, it's right up against a highway, the commuter rail tracks, other streets and buildings, a plaza that leads to the basketball arena etc. So kudos the the Twins for doing this. I'm not sure where people park.

The shape of it only got me as I exited and did 3/4 perimeter where a 1/4 would have sufficed.

The train passed the new Vikings Stadium on the way, sort of on the other end of downtown. It's like one gigantic window.

Oof. Maybe I should play hooky from work and just go to a night game and leave early.

Re: Going to the Game in 2016

I've also only been to one game, which is about par for me. The oddity is that I didn't get to a game until September; usually I go in April or May. But this hasn't been at all a typical year for me.

I was interested to learn that the Mets have only won ten games this year in which they haven't homered, and the one game I attended was one of them. (Saturday, September 3.)

I doubt that I'll get up to Citi Field again in 2016, but if the final weekend in Philadelphia has the Mets playing for a playoff spot, I'll be very tempted to go to at least one of those games.

I might! Really want to get in a second game. Especially seeing how unlikely it is that I'll get to many, if any, games next year.

Why is that? Is Ceetarella expecting a sibling?

Was it Ceetarella or Ceetarette? I keep forgetting.

But yes, in March. Probably even going to miss Opening Day!

Thanks. I was just starting to enjoy the full night's sleep again too. Maybe I'll make Ceetarette get up with Ceetarette2.

I'm assuming taking her to Opening Day and leaving the wife with the possibly weeks old newborn is not a suggested activity.

The following potential 2016 Postseason games at Citi Field will be included in this presale:

2016 National League Wild Card
2016 NLDS Home Game 1
2016 NLDS Home Game 2
2016 NLDS Home Game 3

There's virtually no chance that there will be a third home game for the Mets in the NLDS. The only possible way is if the Mets win the NL East and finish with a better record that the NL West winner as well.

If the Mets do make it to the NLCS as the wild card team, Home Games 1 and 2 will be played at Citi Field on Monday and Tuesday, October 10 and 11. The Wild Card game would be on a Wednesday. If any of the games fell on a weekend I'd take a shot at getting tickets, but I can't realistically get to Citi Field for a weekday night game, so I'll pass. (Not that I would have been likely to get tickets anyway.)

I think it would be wrong to make the Cubs pay several grand for World Series tickets. After knocking them out 2 years in a row, the Mets should at least comp them a few seats. It's the sporting thing to do.

So I'm getting her ticket. If the Indians are up 3-2 after game 5, my rooting interest for Game 6 has now become seriously conflicted.

It depends on what's stronger, your rooting interest or your desire to go to the game.

If I had Mets tickets for World Series Game 7, and the Mets were up 3 games to 2, I'd be totally rooting for them to win Game 6.

I'd be satisfied with the Mets winning it all in a Game 6 while holding a ticket
for Game 7. I'd put a frame around it and hang it over the bar (if I had one).

Not sure how I'd feel about Chad's scenario; seeing the Cubs continue their
century-long failure to win it all at the hands of The Tribe (in Cleveland) would
be awfully sweet!

If it were the Mets, no question I'd be rooting for a quick end to the WS over a chance to see Game 7. For my AL cheat team, there's less of a pull.

And my buddy has said that he'd still root for the Indians to win 6, Game 7 ticket or not.
