New fried chicken sandwich stand from Momfuku.

Character race a la sausages/presidents between innings but with cars (yellow taxi, cop car, firetruck)

Pepsi patrol renamed Perk Patrol and will shoot custom 7-line t shirts

(various tweets)

I really can't believe they are letting in a place called "mom fuck you", terrible judgment, worse than the Coke Den in right field.

Is Mama's of Corona still going to be there? Their turkey-and-mozzarella heroes are one of two reasons I go to Citi Field. (The other is, of course, to see the Mets play.)

Seconded. No reason to re-invent a tradition.

I'm sure it is. I don't see why. Turkey is nasty and you can get boring cold cut sandwiches at any deli in tri state area just as good.

To each his own. I think it's a great sandwich, with the marinated mushrooms, the gravy, and the roasted red peppers.

Here I was thinking that, "OK, well, if they have a Checker cab, at least that will be 10 cents worth of awareness."

Nope.

I assume the Coked Up Corner replacing the Pepsi Porch means I won't be able to get a big Diet Pepsi there this year. Sucky. Not a Diet Coke fan.

Bacon slab covered with peanut butter pretzels. On a stick. This will either be really good or really bad.

Either way, it's a heart attack waiting to happen.

Right?

The Fuku sammich is supposed to be choice, with a Chick-Fil-A-meets-great-Korean-chicken thing happening there.

I love all things pork, and I've never felt compelled to try the Bacon Guy stuff., nor will I likely have the peanuts-and-chocolate-and-wingnuts-and shredded-candied-tires offering this time around. It all just seems... forced.

Mama's is good every now and again. But if you want to be Big Chief IDon'tWannaTryTheNewStuff but still want to treat yourself, really, Torta Neza truck in the neighborhood, just across the Grand Central off Roosevelt-- Mexican torts the size of your head!-- is the God's honest (go for the carnitas).

It's just so..bleh. It's like the most boring meat imaginable and at best is mildly moist and adds a little salt.

I've never had turkey on anything that I didn't think would be better without it, and that includes Mamas.

I think it was more Caesar's doing a bankruptcy thing. Means the ads and signage will change, but that's probably it. I doubt they change up the club much. Party City deck is changing too. I wonder if the Mets, wisely, decided to leverage the increased exposure into asking for more money.

I'm hardly the kind of person who doesn't like to try new stuff. (Anyone else here ever eat a guinea pig?) If I went to Citi Field eight times a year I'd have Mama's the first time and seven other things each subsequent time. But I only tend to go once a year, so as it turns out, I usually get that turkey-and-mozzarella hero. I think there were two seasons when I went to Citi Field twice, and on my second visits I got Shake Shack once and Blue Smoke the other time.

It's strange that I seem to have to defend my fondness for a particular sandwich. Isn't taste supposed to be subjective? And by the way, I think turkey is tastier than chicken. (THERE! I SAID IT! HAH!)

Re: New Shit at Shea 16

I feel like Mama's probably gives you the most food for your $$ if you, like me, has the bad habit of tending to view eating by volume as a goal in and of itself, so I look at it as a good choice when I'm hungry. It's like 5 pounds of hero.

Most of the time I can't deal with the lines at SS so don't. Can't tell you how many times I meant to have a burger and settled instead for the tacos or Blue Smoke.

If I were a betting man, I'd put $$ on the chicken sammy being a hit and those deserts-on-a-stick a bust. Bacon is so cliched now I can't believe it even exists as a food.

The Bacon is pretty good, and it's been there for two years already and it's just a kiosk. Plus Citi Field is hosting the bacon and beer classic again. The dessert twist might end up not being great, but the candied stuff is good.

People went gaga for the blue smoke chicken sandwich and i'm sure this will be no different.

I pass two shake shacks on my way to work, so having it at Citi Field is no longer a draw. But yes, this is going to be a concern more so this year with more people, and more amateurs, at games. Even with all the stands I find myself just wanting something that I can get in under 5 minutes and with busy crowds it's hard to do that in the high traffic areas.

Nice thing about the playoffs is so many people were serious about the game so you could pop out fast and hit like Blue Smoke with almost no line.

Re: New Shit at Shea 16

Just ribbing you, BG. Mostly.

Wild turkey >>>> chicken (due to feed differences, mostly). Outside of that, and rubs/marinades/smoking, well, any difference between America's Batman and Superman of fowl-- the supermarket kind-- is in your MIND, man. They're all bred for size/white meat, not taste.

Candied bacon is all right. The candied, dipped slabs they've got are more like State Fair/"challenge" food, a cousin of the donut-bun burger and such.

I agree. Dark meat has flavor, but white meat really is just something to be flavored by other ingredients.

Yeah, and Ford automobiles are pretty... St. Paul, Minnesota.

It's like the black uniforms, or the retropark. Take somebody else's idea and do it last and worst*, pretend it's cool and authentic, slap a corporate sponsor on it, and fool nobody.

#MetsMarketing!

* I don't actually think (or know enough to think) that Citifield is the "worst," but the execution of retroness (relaunching Ebbets, putting a street corner design in a giant parking lot) certainly wasn't fully thought out.
