In an alternative universe peopled by intelligent mammals, where predators and prey have learned to live in a modest harmony — coexisting despite their relative sizes — a country bunny dreams of moving to the big city and joining the police force, where she quickly stumbles into a mystery that threatens the city's uneasy tranquility.

Re: Zootopia (2016)

Saw the coming attraction a few weeks ago. When I had to register a car last week (see the Apropos of Nothing 2016 thread) I remembered the DMV scene clip from the preview and laughed again. Haven't seen the full movie yet, but it looks like a delight. I'll score it then.

This movie was FANTASTIC. The best kids' movie since Lego. LOVED IT.

I gave it three stars. I was put off by a little extra nastiness and winking product placement, but I'm sure I owe it at least a half star more for having a moral that, while heavy-handed, speaks right to the heart of our current political situation.

I like how they have a lot of fun with the all these mammals sharing a society despite their disparate sizes, forcing them to come up with adaptive and duplicative infrastructure that serves multiple sizes at once.

Very good film. I know that it's early, but this is going to be a strong contender for the Best Animated Film Oscar next year. The animation was gorgeous, the voice actors were great, and the script was intelligent - accessible for kids without being insufferable for adults. The pacing could have been better - they should have trimmed 10-15 minutes off of it - but overall this was very well done.

Good enough, but the damn bit about the sloth was completely unfunny after the first visual. It milked the joke ever worse than Family Guy.

Overall, though, it was pretty standard and by-the-numbers.
