Soothsaying for Sixteen: Matt Reynolds

I joined a Major League post-season team, without ever having appeared in a big league game. That's me, man. Yeah, I didn't actually appear in the post-season either, but still, pretty cool, huh? Could anybody be so close to the big leagues without actually being there as I am? Did I get a post-season share? I don't know but I bet I did, if only a partial!

You what else, though, Gavin Cecchini has joined me at AAA, and with the signing of Cabera, all suggests the surfeit shortystop talent in the organization is starting to squeeze me out (like it has already squeezed out Ruben). My first goal is to return to the bigs I guess as a utility guy, and show my merits once I get there. My merits! They are legion!!

How much so? Perhaps you have an opinion on this matter.

I feel like the team needs another shot of youthful energy and am sort of rooting Reynolds somehow finds his way onto the roster. At the cost of Soupy Campbell? Maybe, but maybe instead he just takes deGrom's space when he goes onto the disabled list.

Anywhoo, I'll err on the side of optimism and say he winds up 270/320/380 with 160 PAs, 4 homers, a handful of doubles, a couple stolen bases and just good enough looks to make it difficult to properly assess the middle infield for all of us.

Re: Soothsaying for Sixteen: Matt Reynolds

The Mets have this recent history of infield subs staying one year past their due date. Turner was good, then he wasn't. But as bad as that was, Satin stepped in, and he was good, then he wasn't. S'okay, because Campy stepped in, and he was good, and then, don't you know, he wasn't.

It's Reynolds' turn to be good.

I inclined to think Sandy wants Reynolds to get full-time work in Vegas so that if there is an injury with the big club Reynolds can seamlessly move into MLB full-time work.

I think he'll get regular work, but with Cecchini and Herrera working up the middle in Las Vegas, full-time status is in doubt.

Re: Soothsaying for Sixteen: Matt Reynolds

I see Matt playing mostly third base at Las Vegas, getting called up in September and hitting well enough (.270/ .340/ .385) to be considered as the super-sub for the Mets starting in 2017.

He's been a third baseman so far.

Muno did most of the third basin' last year, which kind of tells you how things go in AAA. You get a surfeit of middle infielders, and some of them have to play third and some of them (Ty Kelly) have to play outfield, and so they're all in training to be utility men.

I don't know, I think some of us thought he'd be a regular last year
unless I'm mixing him up with someone. No place on the boat, see ya in
September. Again?
