Soothsaying for Sixteen: Dominic Smith

Look, a lot of people are late bloomers with the power. Like, I dunno, Don F. Mattingly, that's who. I do everything else, and the power... it's coming. Right now, it's coming in Binghamton.

Don't believe me? Ask Lucas Duda if he feels my hot, sexy breath on his shoulder. I bet he does!

What do you feel?

Tough call, could he spell Duda in September?

Don't think he'll make the major league team this year.
But he'll begin to show power in the minors. He has been playing in parks that favor pitchers in prior seasons.

Re: Soothsaying for Sixteen: Dominic Smith

Was just looking up Dominic Smith and saw him listed at 250 pounds on baseball-reference and milb.com!?! He was listed at 185 when we drafted him.

Is he going all Mo Vaughn on us? He's only 6' tall. Pretty nice season this year, FWIW. .302/.367/.457 and finally double-digit homers with 14.

Ps - stoners eat shitty food and a lot of it. Just sayin.

He was pretty chunky in the mid-rift when bmfc and I saw him in Bowie a fortnight back.

He could use six weeks with Mike Barwis this offseason.

Re: Soothsaying for Sixteen: Dominic Smith

He's never been Mr. GoodBody, even as a teenager, and the prospect boards that follow this stuff have often commented that he/the Mets need to keep an eye on his weight and conditioning.
That said, 250 seems awfully high in the same way that the reported 185 at draft day does too low and it would seem to me that a 1st round pick gaining 65 pounds between age 18 & 21 would set off alarms bells all over the baseball world.

Keith was talking the other day about how the 175 he weighed in at when first breaking into the majors as a 19 y/o followed him around for years afterward to the point where he had to specifically request a change to the 195 or so that he had become and played at during the bulk of his career, so weights listed aren't always accurate.
Problem is, that 250 figure for Smith had to come from somewhere.
