Here's a holy crap for you: Counting the post-season, the guy is an historic 17-1 with two no-hitters in his last 19 starts. The one loss came to the Mets in Game Two of the NLCS, back when Daniel Murphy was eating opposing aces for breakfast.

Originally a 5th round pick by Baltimore out of TCU in 2007, it's not even three full years (July 2013) since the O's got tired of waiting around for Arrieta and dealt him* to the Cubs after 3-1/2 up and down seasons which produced a 20-25 record with a 5.46 ERA over 60 starts. Since hitting Chicago he's 40-13 with a sub-2.20 ERA plus a CY award and 2 no-hitters to his credit. The biggest blemish on his record since hitting the windy city? ... probably the three-spot we hung on him in the first three batters [1B - 2B - HR by Grandy - Dabid - Murph] en route to a 4 ER / 4 Hit / 2 BB in 5 IP (L) performance in Game 2 NLCS last October. * traded [u:2plsjxsc]with[/u:2plsjxsc] reliever Pedro Strop for Steve Clevinger & Scott Feldman. Neither Clevinger nor Feldman remain w/the O's while Strop's been the Cubs' main set-up man ever since the deal. Think Baltimore might want a mulligan on that one?

Dialing back the Arrieta freakiness a bit further to take in his last 24 starts - dating back to late June 2015 24 starts, 20-1 record plus 3 ND. Cubs won 2 of those 3 so the team is 22-2 in his last 24 starts 178 Innings with 91 Hits allowed 33 BB vs 173 K 17 ER allowed = 0.86 ERA 4 HRs allowed vs [u:27caqtf5]3 HRs hit[/u:27caqtf5]!! So that's more no-hitters (2) than losses (1) over a four month span and almost as many HRs hit as allowed. And how did he lose that one game? That was the game where the Cubs got no-hit by Cole Hamels making his Philly phinale.

Arrieta's shot at 'the Van der Meer' went out the window with a leadoff single today in Chicago. Also walked two in that opening inning to load 'em up for Kirk Nieuwenhuis ... who K'd on a full count to end the frame with no runs scored.
