Re: Where Mets Rank in 2016

Do strikeouts in one season by a Mets pitching staff; by Mets starters. I'm guessing a record setting pace -- perhaps a MLB record setting pace, or in the running.

Re: Where Mets Rank in 2016

Thank you for asking. The Mets are indeed on a record pace. The main difference in this case is that it's a category in wich the Mets have been setting a record almost every season.

Re: Where Mets Rank in 2016

I think I read somewhere that no group of starters ever struck out more than 1,000 batters in a season, or something like that. But these Mets just might be the staff to do it.

In today's baseball I suspect most team's pitching staffs (and most of the lineups for that matter) are setting new strikeout records almost every year.

Wow! I didn't realize that Franco had that big of a lead, or that Benitez had more saves than Orosco.

At the rate Familia is going, he could pass those guys in a week -- or just over a week. And assuming he stays on this path, could zoom into third place by the middle of next season.

Re: Where Mets Rank in 2016

I guess we missed this, but earlier this season Terry Collins passed Bobby Valentine to become the all-time leader in losses by a Mets manager:

Terry Collins 488
Bobby Valentine 467
Joe Torre 420
Davey Johnson 417
Casey Stengel 404
Gil Hodges 309
Yogi Berra 296
Dallas Green 283
Willie Randolph 253
Wes Westrum 237
Jerry Manuel 213
Art Howe 186
Bud Harrelson 129
George Bamberger 127
Jeff Torborg 115
Joe Frazier 106
Frank Howard 64
Roy McMillan 27
Salty Parker 7
Mike Cubbage 4

Terry has now managed 963 Mets games. Only Davey Johnson and Bobby Valentine have managed more. If Terry makes it 41 games into the 2017 season he'll take sole possession of first place.

Davey Johnson 1,012
Bobby Valentine 1,003
Terry Collins 963
Joe Torre 709
Gil Hodges 649
Yogi Berra 588
Casey Stengel 582
Willie Randolph 555
Dallas Green 512
Jerry Manuel 417
Wes Westrum 380
Art Howe 323
Bud Harrelson 274
George Bamberger 208
Joe Frazier 207
Jeff Torborg 200
Frank Howard 116
Roy McMillan 53
Salty Parker 11
Mike Cubbage 7

Jeurys Familia has moved into fifth place on the Mets all-time saves list. If he saves four of the Mets final nine games this season he will claim fourth place all to himself. (And he'll help the Mets postseason hopes by quite a bit!)

1. John Franco 276
2. Armando Benitez 160
3. Jesse Orosco 107
4. Billy Wagner 101
5. Jeurys Familia 98
6. Tug McGraw 85
7. Roger McDowell 84
8. Francisco Rodriguez 83
9. Neil Allen 69
10. Skip Lockwood 65
11. Braden Looper 57
12. Randy Myers 56
