My 4½-year-old laptop is dying again. Despite getting a cooling pad for it and coddling it with a small external fan it overheats and shuts down. Sometimes at the most inconvenient of times. It's a ThinkPad, my third Lenovo ThinkPad but I'm thinking of getting something different this go around. I have an Asus tablet that I really like and their Zenbooks look pretty cool. Anyone have a laptop that they really like and recommend? I have no interest in going Apple whatsoever.

All I can say is don't bother with Dell anymore. I useta buy their stuff only for the service that came with, but they just have zero interest in that aspect anymore. Those detachable-keyboard Microsoft Surface thingies look pretty cool; if they work at all might be a bonus.

Yeah, I have a Dell desktop that is just about as old as my laptop but I'm done with them. It's been some time now, but when I was doing the computer stuff at my old job we used Dell for all desktops and it was sad to see how their support and general treatment of good solid customers slowly went down the terlit. I forgot about Surface, they look kinda cool too.

No. Was it about computers, notebooks, and tablets in 2016? I bet I'm the only poster here who has a chalkboard in his garage.

Ended up with an Asus laptop, but not a Zenbook. Got one geared towards gamers (which I'm not) and has a ton of RAM and a giant (not SSD) drive and the screen is awesome. Had to keep it under $1,000 (before tax) and very happy so far.
