This is gong to be a tough road trip (on us anyway) -- 11 straight PDT or MDT games, all late at night* except for the two Sunday games. Geez, west coast dudes, throw in a day game for us every once in a while, huh ... a Saturday how'boutit, or maybe one of the weekdays, something!!! * Five 10:10 starts, [u:25tcqg7b]one 10:40[/u:25tcqg7b], two 8:40, one 8:10, and then the Sunday games at 4:10 & 4:40

I gotta admit I love 4 p.m. Sunday starts. I sit in the yard BBQing with cold beer and listen to Howie & Josh on the boombox. Wifey thinks I'm busy back there.

Nothing against the 4:00 starts. I just wish these west coast teams would mix in a day game every once in a while (SF usually does). But the So-Cal teams flocked to Sat nights even before they were popular (or mandated) elsewhere. Plus early May is still a risky time of year to go all night games in Denver; I think it snowed there just in the last day or two. It's also a shame how MLB has all but abandoned Saturday afternoon baseball in all time zones. Nice to hear Keith railing about that recently, especially as he was saying so through the mikes of the guys dictating those decisions. As it is, we'll have 18 Pac time or Mtn time games this year [4 in SD, 4 in LA, 3 in COL, 3 in AZ, 4 in SF] and 14 of them are at night local times meaning late at night our time. Only the three Sundays and a Saturday in SF are day games. And then in 2017 we get to throw in another couple of AL West teams visited which could push the late night starts to around 25% of the road schedule.

Matt Kemp has been immune to the Padres' offensive struggles, batting .378 with three home runs and nine RBIs over his last 11 games. TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), FSN San Diego PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Jacob deGrom (3-0, 1.02 ERA) vs. Padres RH Colin Rea (2-1, 4.61) DeGrom missed time with a lat injury and family issues but has been superb on the three occasions he's taken the mound. He didn't allow an earned run while beating San Francisco in his last start, when he gave up just two hits over six innings. The 27-year-old deGrom has struggled with Melvin Upton Jr. (3-for-6) while handcuffing Christian Bethancourt (0-for-7). Rea has won back-to-back decisions, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last outing. He gave up two runs and four hits over six innings in the victory over Los Angeles and has allowed two or fewer earned runs in three of his last four starts. Rea has experienced control issues, handing out 13 walks in 27 1/3 frames while posting a 1.57 WHIP. WALK-OFFS: 1. Mets 3B David Wright sat out Wednesday to rest his chronically sore back but is expected to be in Thursday's lineup. 2. San Diego 2B Jemile Weeks went 0-for-9 in three games against Colorado and is just 2-for-25 over his last eight contests. 3. New York RF Curtis Granderson is just 3-for-22 over his last seven games.

I may time-shift Friday night's game and watch it on Saturday morning but for tonight's game I'll just check the score on my phone when I inevitably wake up in the middle of the night. (I remember when I used to have to turn on my clock radio to do this!)

I woke up shortly before 5 this morning. But, taking off Friday. I will be there, especially since deGrom is likely to throw a perfect game and Doodoo will hit 4 bombs.

Since I've never heard of Colin Rea (I assume he's no relation to Colin Hay of MEN AT WORK) and we never got a KTE here: 12th round pick out of Indiana State (Go Sycamores!) by the Pads in 2011 6' 5" / 225 -- RHP/RHB 6 starts last year, 5 plus one relief outing this season. 4-3 overall, 4.42, 1.41 WHiP Coming off a win vs LAD

No work for me tomorrow so I'm having a double espresso in preparation for the 10:00 start. In the meantime I'm watching the Jankees and hoping a loss for them will dovetail nicely into the first inning in San Diego.

Well, if nothing else we've taken a potential no-hitter where we were out-played from the jump and turned it into a game where the opposing manager soils his undies and we make them burn their closer in what looked like a blowout. And at the very best ...

Conforto & Walker look like poop. So did deGrom. Rea did a nice job. I expired shortly after the no-no broke up, but Gary's call of Cespedes HR woke me but I was back down before the pitching change.
