Looks like lots of rain today (all through the day) in San Diego. I'm hoping that if they decide to call this one and do two tomorrow they decide earlier than 10:40 ET.

I was going to reply, "Or his Maypo!" I googled to see if Maypo was still around and type Mapo and got a Korean bbq place in Flushing!

Ditto, recall the name and commercials. I'm not even sure what it was (or is). Just the name though...Maypo. I couldn't get past that.

The Padres are like the Oregon U. of baseball - a new uniform every night.

I'm awake Gary! I have half a cup of coffee. Anymore than that I'll be up all night.

Zvon May 06 2016 10:07 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
Ha. I missed the scoring. Looks like good baseball. Double, advance on groundout, Sac fly. One of these two teams is playing good baseball.
Fman99 May 06 2016 10:10 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
I didn't realize until nearly 9 PM that it wasn't a 10:10 start. I'm generally pretty soused by 10:40, but I'm fighting the good fight. Love the brown and yellow uniforms. LGM

I thought 10:10 too. Bastages. Also like the unis. And I want to see the Mets go with the new chic flat blue helmet look.

If I was Thor I'd want Rivera catching my games all the time. And the way our catching has been going we just might see that.

Rivera with d'Gun!
Zvon May 06 2016 10:35 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
Yesterday Gary said something about TC saying that Duda was hitting to left with authority. He has hit to left, but not with authority imo. He won't "go" to left. He'll go to right and swing late. He's not changing his swing or weight shift, or lead foot. Just swinging late, sometimes chopping, sometimes blooping to left. If that's the only way he can do it, so be it, I'll take it. Cause it does work from time to time. But I wish he had a swing just for going to left. Don't swing late as much as shift your weight later, let the swing & your hips follow that. Square some up that way.

batmagadanleadoff May 06 2016 10:38 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
That's why shifts work. That's also why there's so much luck in baseball. Because the action revolves around the batted ball, and the batters, by and large and to a great extent, can't control where the batted ball goes. It's tough enough just to hit the ball. And to the extent that some batters have some control over where the ball goes, it's not nearly the kind of control or precision that, for example, a basketball player needs to sink a free throw or a quarterback needs to complete a pass 30 yards downfield. Otherwise, there wouldn't be shifts. Ever.
d'Kong76 May 06 2016 10:42 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
I'd just lay down a bunt against the shift until they stop.
batmagadanleadoff May 06 2016 10:46 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
You would think. Some of those shifts, it looks to me like the batter can bunt for a double.
Zvon May 06 2016 10:49 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
True, and good point. But the best hitters can adjust to a pitch. Now playing in an actual game, all bets are off because of the human factor, the pitcher's stuff. But in batting practice a good hitter will practice spraying them all around and try to apply that to the game. We don't see that much today. Not at all from the sluggers. Sluggers have one swing and that's all they think they need. To me that makes for a one dimensional hitter. We see too many hitters doing that these days. Meh, it's part of today's game.

Oh, me 3. If no one is on the left side tight, yea, I think I would bunt until they stop. Why doesn't one of these players today just do that?!
d'Kong76 May 06 2016 10:53 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
Bunt the ball towards third a few times, shift stops..

Do they consider it bad baseball etiquette or something, not to do that?
Frayed Knot May 06 2016 11:08 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
No, they just consider 250 lb slow-footed sluggers to generally be really bad bunters.
Frayed Knot May 06 2016 11:09 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
Just what you want from a 10:40 start: a 1-0, yet still slow-moving, game.

Ugh, Flores, straddle the bag...let the ball come to you. Ronnie says bad throw. I disagree, bad play Wilmer.

Zvon May 06 2016 11:28 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
6th inning. We can score 2 runs. Come on!

Damn! These pesky Padre position players! Cespedes is robbed by a fired up Kemp.
Frayed Knot May 06 2016 11:44 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
What's this now, three different games this week with no hits or just one hit through the first six?
Zvon May 06 2016 11:50 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
Too many famines in too little time. Not good. TC said right at the get-go that this team will live and die by the longball. And I thought: don't be saying that TC, you have some power guys and some contact guys. But then everyone started hitting homeruns and I shut up. Whoa, that woke me up. And that was small ball. He did not make the transfer! Challenge!!!!
Zvon May 06 2016 11:52 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
WHAT!! what the fuck do u have a challenge for!!!!!!!!!!!--the replay shows he never transferred it and they still call him out!!! WTF!!!!
Frayed Knot May 06 2016 11:53 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
1) (another) bad send by Timmy. I was saying 'No' the entire way.
Zvon May 06 2016 11:54 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
Wow, that was a ballsy send by Tueffel. It should be 2-1. Not reversing that call was a travesty my friends.

Frayed Knot May 06 2016 11:58 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |

We don't know if that was the reason for the non-reversal or not - but it's just another flaw in the whole system. He didn't touch the plate afterward because he was called out and it's simply not logical to play the game as if each call made needs to be ignored like it never happened.
Zvon May 06 2016 11:59 PM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |

The way we aren't scoring? Cabrera isn't the fastest and that low ground view did make it look stupid, but I wanted him to try.
Zvon May 07 2016 12:00 AM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |

They are tryin' to ruin our game F.K.!
Frayed Knot May 07 2016 12:05 AM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
Not when the shortstop has the ball just as Cabrera is only a stride past 3B. I probably wouldn't have sent him with two outs and definitely not with only one.
Zvon May 07 2016 12:10 AM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
Yea, that ground view plainly showed that. But I didn't see that as it was happening. So, you're right, but I stubbornly stick to my guns and admit I was yelling GO! GO! lol.
Zvon May 07 2016 12:34 AM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
9th inning. One man on. No outs. Cespedes at the plate.
Zvon May 07 2016 12:38 AM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
Cespedes pulls one off the end of his bat, lines out to left. Duda...walks! 2 on, 1 out, Cabrera...
Zvon May 07 2016 12:40 AM Re: IGT 05/06 - Mets @ Padres |
Ugh, Cabrera swings over a tight fastball. 2 out. De Aza, be my hero.
