Mets pick a first-place battle and smoking hot rivalry to schedule a Bark at the Park game. WOOF! Can I get in free? WOOF-WOOF!

Though we wish for a replica of the 05/17 result, this IGT should be dated 05/18.

I'm somewhat heartened to hear Wright considered himself ready to go and reacted negatively on the field when told he was being scratched. Hopefully, that means a DL trip isn't imminent or anything.

Or that off the field distractions don't start becoming an issue The 42-year-old hurler has been dragged into Manhattan court by Alexandra Santos, 38, who claims the $7 million-a-year player, and married father with four sons, is a deadbeat dad who failed to pay child support for two elementary-school-age kids he fathered with her ...

Very interesting and telling photos. Reportedly of when TC was telling the Capt that he was riding the bench. I have never seen Collins with these expressions on his face. Some serious shit.

Gonzalez is having a good season -- 1.93 ERA over 7 starts -- but has only a 2-1 record to show for it. Run support is obviously a factor but his biggest problem is that he either walks too many or throws too many pitches even when not walking guys. It's why he averages only 6 innings/start despite the otherwise good numbers. In his last two starts he threw 100 pitches in 5.2 innings, and 106 in just 5.0 I suspect Duda sits another day because of the lefty starter even if the back is better, but this game is the best chance to get into their middle relief early.

Of all the times for the team with the least walks allowed to give up 10 free passes.
|
Frayed Knot May 18 2016 09:21 PM Re: IGT 05/18 - DC @ NYC |

2:32 for a low-scoring, 8-1/2 inning game used to be considered a longie. The sad part here is that the Nats have hit maybe four balls hard all night. Now granted that's two or three more than we have, but mostly we've just been giving them bases all game.
|
Zvon May 18 2016 09:22 PM Re: IGT 05/18 - DC @ NYC |
In their 55-season history, the Mets are 2-14 when walking at least 10 batters and plunking at least two.

Basing moves on the notion that 'Player X kills Team Y' is a losing strategy. Werth, who turns 37 tomorrow, has been a .221 hitter since the start of the 2015 season, something that's a big enough sample size to figure that, whatever he was, he isn't that same guy anymore. And even if his vs-NYM stats are super-great [which they aren't: career marks are somewhat higher vs Mets in BA & OBA though lower than normal in power] what does this have to do with a guy who's never pitched to him as a New York Met? If the hitter has specific numbers against a particular pitcher that's one thing (and Bastardo's never really been a left-on-left specialist anyway) but let's not start believing in magic powers that somehow are going to cause Werth to suddenly be more likely to succeed against a pitcher based on him changing the color of his game-day pajamas. It was the top of the 7th, Robles had already been spent and Werth was just the second batter he was facing with their best two hitters, both lefties, following afterward. I don't see taking him out there as an option even on the table. on edit: Werth had been 1-for-2 + a Sac Fly vs Bastardo before last night (one PA in 2011, one in 2012, one more in 2014). I don't base anything on a sample that small. And now he's 2-for-3
