OoTS - Week of 05/16 - 05/22

I'm keeping up on the Marlins and Phils. The Marlins take an early 2-0 lead in the first behind two RBI doubles from Yelich and Ozuna vs. Hellickson.

I was stunned to hear Al Leiter doing color for the game on Fox Sports Florida. I guess (in addition to his YES work) he is doing select Marlins games this year.

Tom Koehler gives the two back plus one. 3-2 Phils after 4.

It's always a bad sign when the number of runs you give up in an inning is greater than the highest number you can count to without assistance.

The Phils add one more in the eighth and finish the game 4-2 victors.

The Phillies are in a virtual tie for first in the NL East pending the Nats and Mets later today. Philadelphia's 24 wins are currently more than any other NL team not named the Chicago Cubs.

- Cubs @ Giants is the big O-o-T series of this weekend.
The Giants are on an 8-game win streak which broke up the mediocre log-jam which had existed in the west for most of the season, while the Cubs have lost 5 of 8 -- hardly a big slump but crushing to those who were going nuts with predictions of a 120+ win season off their hot start. Arrieta vs Peavy starts it off.

- Time to root for the Braves as they visit Philly

- and the Nats spend the weekend in Miami

Braves beat Phils for the second day in a row, holding them to just one run total in the two games.
(and Gary talks about it just as I'm hitting 'Submit')

Nats went into the 9th down by 2 in Miami.
3 singles and a walk cut the lead to 1 with bases loaded and no outs!!
But a Jayson Werth 5-2-5 GiDP was followed by a Jose Lobaton GO to end the game!!!

Nats & Phils both win their Sunday games.
So it's a weekend where we gained a game on each of them plus two on the Marlins.

In the all-Steve Garvey matchup, the Dodgers and Pads are tied at five in the fifteenth inning. Both starting pitchers were pulled after five, so the Pads have used seven pitchers in total so far, while Dodgers are on their ninth, sending rookie starting pitcher Ross Stripling out there.

In the top of the 17th, the Dodgers get two on. Stripling bunts them over, and the camouflage-clad Pads walk Jock Pederson. Conference on the mound.

Infield in against Puig.

Two-run single through the drawn-in infield.

Four-runs score in all against gassed Padres reliever Luis Perdomo, but the Pads open the bottom of the 17th with a hit off of Stripling. The Dodgers may not have enough pitching to close this out.

There was some drama before the Padres game too:

Sheesh, the "Stay classy, San Diego" response is simply too obvious.

But why were they lip synching in the first place?
