IGT 05/21 - Brewers at Metropolitans

Milwaukee at NY Mets
When: 4:10 PM ET, Saturday, May 21, 2016
Where: Citi Field, New York City, New York
SportsDirect Inc.

Jacob deGrom makes his first home start in three weeks as the New York Mets play the middle contest of a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday afternoon. DeGrom, seeking his first victory since April 30, hopes to continue his success at Citi Field, where he is 13-7 with a 1.79 ERA in 27 career starts. Bucket hats will be distributed to the first 35 people in attendance.

The Mets rallied for a 3-2 victory in the series opener, halting a modest two-game skid and winning for only the second time in eight games. Rookie Michael Conforto's seventh homer, an opposite-field two-run blast, provided the difference for New York, which has scored seven runs in its last four games. Chris Carter homered for the second straight day and third time in five games for Milwaukee, which managed only one hit over the final eight innings Friday. The Brewers will send right-hander Zach Davies to the mound to oppose deGrom.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), WPIX (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Zach Davies (1-3, 5.58 ERA) vs. Mets RH Jacob deGrom (3-1, 2.50)

Davies turned in his best start of the season versus San Diego on Sunday but had to settle for a no-decision despite allowing two runs on three hits over 6 1/3 innings. Davies earned his first victory of the season in his previous outing after pitching five innings of two-run ball at Miami. Davies has permitted two earned runs in each of his last three turns after he was tagged for 14 runs over his first three outings.

DeGrom rang up 205 strikeouts last year but his numbers are way down in that category this season -- he has a total of nine during a three-start winless stretch spanning 18 1/3 innings. He gave up three runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings at the Colorado Rockies on Sunday in his second straight no-decision. DeGrom has seen plenty of the Brewers over his first three seasons, logging a 3-1 record and 1.38 ERA in four starts.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Brewers LF Ryan Braun, who has missed three straight games due to lower-back stiffness, is 0-for-10 against deGrom.
2. Mets RHP Jeurys Familia has converted all 14 save opportunities.
3. Carter has accumulated nine RBIs over the past seven games.

This Davies guy really does look like a High-schooler out there.
6' 0" / 155 ?!? Geez, I don't tend to think of guys my height yet 20 pounds lighter than my already thin frame being a professional athlete.

Somebody needs to tell him, though, that slathering tattoos all over your arms does NOT make baby-faced, skinny guys look older or tougher.
It just makes you look dorkier and like you're trying too hard.

Although at this point he's out-pitching deGrom and on about half as many pitches so perhaps I just better shut up.

How was it bad? Gary said that too but it looked like a routine slide to me. He could have started the slide later, and maybe to better results, but that was as boring a routine slide I've ever seen.

Yeah, he slid too early to the point where he had practically come to a stop by the time he reached the bag. Slide hard into that pillow dammit!

Yea, that's true. It didn't look that bad on replay but in real time he did slow his motion.

Re: IGT 05/21 - Brewers at Metropolitans

Yoenis Cespedes is hitting a home run every 11.8 at bats in a Mets uniform. Babe Ruth hit one every 11.76 at bats during his career.

(Just pulling this stuff from twitter- I have no confirmation but I'll share it anyways)

David Wright has set a franchise record with his eighth career walk off hit.
Also the ninth walk off RBI in David Wright's career, setting a new franchise record.

I'm never gonna be able to keep track of all these records.

Mets announce that Matt Harvey will pitch Tuesday against the Nationals on regular rest, not Monday.

But yeah he's had a few since then. His last Grand Slam might've been 10 years ago though.

No TV coverage for me, as per usual on WPIX days, but listened to much of the game on XM/WFAN while shopping, driving, cooking, and then cleaning up after dinner, including the ending. Good stuff.

Are you always guaranteed the Mets feed on satellite or do you sometimes have to listen to the opponents announcers?

If I am in my vehicle, I only get the home broadcast team, so, I get Howie and Josh half of the time.

On the phone/app, they carry both feeds, so I can always choose the Mets' broadcast team (and then, if there are technical issues, I have the opponents' broadcasters as an alternate). That's the usual method of listening, if I am at work (for weekday matinees) or here at the house (for the weekend games).
