Triple Crown 2016

We're gonna go down to Y-O in a bit to watch and bet on the Kentucky
Derby. KB is the compulive gambler (I'm joking, sweetie) in the family
but I'm gonna plop down a whopping $10 on SuddenBreakingNews at
~ 20-1 to win.

If I win, mint juleps for everyone!

No bets. But we'll tune into NBC in time to see the race.

I haven't even looked at the names of the horses yet. I'll pay attention if there's a Triple Crown on the line in five weeks.

Re: Triple Crown 2016

The weird thing about last year's Triple Crown was that the horsey set long looked for a potential TC winner as the thing that was needed to return their sport to its former high status among the American sports pecking order.
But in an odd way, finally getting one last year probably lessened the interest in that there's no longer the anticipation of whether this would be the year that the decades-long drought would be broken.
Plus it's never going to return to its one-time status anyway; that only existed when it was the sole legal event to gamble on.

Re: Triple Crown 2016

Boxing was never going to return, but the nut jobs hit the jackpot with UFC/MMA by creating a far more more brutal version of boxing.

So horse racing may not return, but maybe panda racing or something will.

Re: Triple Crown 2016

My horse sucked... we waited on line for a half hour so I plunked down
a Tubman instead of $10. I hadn't been to Yonkers Raceway in probably
thirty years. 85% of the people seemed like they lived there, the other
15% there for Derby betting (like us) kinda stuck out like Barney Fife at
a rock concert. Empire City Casino sucks too, never again.

Of course boxing people for the most part are not MMA people and they resent the attention is "stole" from them.

Wait 'til you see the resentment toward the panda people.

Re: Triple Crown 2016

My neighbors had a Kentucky Derby party (one of them grew up in KY) so I drank mint juleps and sang "My Old Kentucky Home" and bet $5 in the pool. I was once told to bet on horses who have trainers with Irish names, but my horse only finished 4th. My son bet on the frontrunner and won $37.

Was golfing and missed the whole thing. Horse racing is at about the same interest level as curling for me.
