Yeah, but it sounds like he'll be out a couple days with this wrist thing so he may not ever bat the whole weekend.

These type of hypothetical questions get asked of every team every year: but if you were to be told that the 3-4-5 in a mid-season lineup would be James Loney, Neil Walker, Kelly Johnson, how many dozen games below .500 would you guess they'd be?

I looked at that lineup and wondered when they reactivated HoJo.

Good job, but that's the organist over-thinking it. Maybe Matt can give up hits to each of the first three guys and pick 'em all off.

MLB.tv just showed Paul Molitor's 3,000th hit. That wasn't a hit. That was an error.

Harvey has owed any success he has had tonight to the Turner Field wall distances.

A 2 out walk and single by Loney & Walker run Wisler from the game.

A strangely high-leverage situation to be calling on Gilmartin.

Edgy MD Jun 23 2016 08:30 PM Re: IGT 6/23/16: NYM@ATL -- Harvey and the Bandit |
I can't call this one. The point of contact is too blurry on the replays I'm getting, but I'm guessing it gets overturned.

d'Kong76 Jun 23 2016 08:34 PM Re: IGT 6/23/16: NYM@ATL -- Harvey and the Bandit |
Someone tweet Keith, ask him if it was a bad slide.
|
Frayed Knot Jun 23 2016 08:35 PM Re: IGT 6/23/16: NYM@ATL -- Harvey and the Bandit |
|
But the 'I can't tell' response is exactly why it shouldn't be overturned. And I've got to say, whether by coincidence, by policy, or just small sample size, the umps back in the bunker seem to be my biggest fear with the replay rule and that's the one where guesses are made based on minute evidence is used as evidence enough for flipping the call.
|
Zvon Jun 23 2016 08:37 PM Re: IGT 6/23/16: NYM@ATL -- Harvey and the Bandit |
It was a terrible slide but I don't think Bonicfacio expected the ball to be involved.
|
Zvon Jun 23 2016 08:40 PM Re: IGT 6/23/16: NYM@ATL -- Harvey and the Bandit |
I agree that a juicy argument would have been nice there. Just so we could sit back a bit. They should allow 23 seconds for arguing. If he stops b4 the times up, he can't be tossed.

He did, and I expected one of them to say Bonny didn't expect a close play. He slide in reaction to lil d', not the ball. He had no freakin idea where the ball was, lol. Again, what a throw.

Ugh. Ow. This one really hurt. It's game one of this series and I have the same feeling I had after the sweep, which was as low as I go. If not for the Royal mini-sweep I might have gone lower on my Meto-meter.
|
Frayed Knot Jun 23 2016 09:09 PM Re: IGT 6/23/16: NYM@ATL -- Harvey and the Bandit |
We can bitch all we want about the depleted lineup but, between the pick-off, the caught stealing, the throw-out at home, and the Braves only coming to bat 8 times, Met pitchers retired just 21 of the 34 hitters they faced tonight and that's simply not good enough. And, yeah, there were some seeing eye hits early on, but there were also a bunch of loud outs.
|
Zvon Jun 23 2016 09:13 PM Re: IGT 6/23/16: NYM@ATL -- Harvey and the Bandit |
|
Unacceptable. But there's always a thorn. There's always a shitty team that sticks it to you. I will keep saying that all night^. If they want to be a doormat for Atlanta then they'll just have to go on and sweep everyone else.
|
Frayed Knot Jun 23 2016 09:14 PM Re: IGT 6/23/16: NYM@ATL -- Harvey and the Bandit |
|||
The guess that it was going to get overturned was logical because since the introduction of replay it seems that too many folks weren't aware of the 'clear and convincing' evidence part of the equation. Like I said, that seems to have been getting better lately (by chance or by design I'm not sure) but too often they've just been replacing live guesswork with grainy video guesswork. Now all they have to do is actually stick to the policy where one wrong challenge actually means you don't get another and then teams would stop challenging every bang-bang play in the 1st inning knowing that a wrong guess won't come back to bite them.
|

That's not an excuse when you get to 5-5 after starting the season 5-1 And in the five they've lost they've blown leads in three of them and been one-hit in the other two.
|
Zvon Jun 23 2016 09:18 PM Re: IGT 6/23/16: NYM@ATL -- Harvey and the Bandit |
||||
I think as far as the "getting it right" thing the umps have become a bit obsessive. I don't understand why because it works against the goal.

As soon as the ball cleared the fence and it became a 4-3 game, I went to bed. In my defense, I was seriously sleepy at this point.
