I believe Stanton is copying Yo Yos arm legging but in Marlins color.

I really wanted the Mets to get Cespedes last season. Love watching him.

Re: IGT 07/06 - Marlins at Mets - Fish-Fry Matinee

Interesting tidbit from Howie and Josh: during negotiations for the trade that brought Nicolino, among others, to the Fish (and Reyes, among others, to the Jays), the Jays reportedly offered Marlins management their choice of three single-A prospects; aside from Nicolino (whom they felt was the most polished of the three), they could have had Aaron Sanchez (9-1, 2.94 ERA/1.18 WHIP this season) or... Noah Syndergaard.

Assuring someone of a 1.000 OBA will always be a losing proposition in the long run.
But if this becomes a one run game in the late innings ...

It's not the OBP I'm worried about, it's the safety of the people sitting in the outfield stands. And on line at the Shake Shack. And walking in the parking lot. And driving in Glen Cove. And arriving Delta Flight 2465 from Tampa...

I'm getting sick of it FK. If that call today was reversed I would have gone ballistic on baseball. The business where you lose your challenge after an unsuccessful one has to be adhered to. There could be rare exceptions by the umps to review it themselves, but if the manager tries to start the process after losing a challenge, if he opens his mouth, any possibility of review should be nullified by his actions.

Like with the kid who lost that no-hitter to a bad call on the last out. I would want the umps to be able to get that right if they mess up. And in that case, if the manager had used his challenge, I would expect the umps to take it on themselves. But this business where they will review things they had no intention of reviewing because a manager who had no challenge, challenged, has to stop.

If game length is a major concern of baseball this is detrimental to what they are trying to do.

Re: IGT 07/06 - Marlins at Mets - Fish-Fry Matinee

eh, get rid of the challenges all together. Leave it to the umps discretion and let managers argue their case. Supposedly we liked the managers coming out and yelling as it added drama or something, so this way preserves that while still gets the calls right.

d'Kong76
Jul 06 2016 03:45 PM
Re: IGT 07/06 - Marlins at Mets - Fish-Fry Matinee

Yeah, the challenge should go (and I think it eventually will). Have a
fifth umpire at HQ on the monitors and when he/she wants to look at
something send an electric shock to the manager's cerebral cortex and
notify the crew chief that a play is under review.

Today was a prime example of a free second review. The umps had no
intention of reviewing it until Queen Donny nudged them towards it.

I was at this game by myself as a result of unforeseen circumstances and scored it. I hadn't scored a MLB game in a long, long time.

Sat by myself, paid attention to every at bat. Great fun. Last out made, I got up and left.

Had no idea Mattingly was able to challenge the game-ending dp until I was in my car.
