I've saved up a couple topics for the Boring Game, I mean, All Star Game break.

Here is one of them.

Do you like the new coloring craze? You can find so many neat books out there! I walked into B&N a couple of weeks ago (I think I mentioned it) and the front of the store was all coloring books, lol.

We have several. Birds, cats, mythical animals... I enjoy coloring in them, but wow, each one takes so long!

I'll be I have about 2,000 colored pencils, too

Re: Coloring Craze

I can't color to save my life - I've never had good handwriting or hand/eye coordination. So for me this one is a big pass.

Apparently adult coloring books are selling well in stores so somebody's buying them.

It's a rare activity you're allowed to occupy yourself with when you're rehabilitating from a concussion.

The wife enjoys them, she does them with Fgirl and her sister (usually specifically with Fgirl in tow). It's a good activity for stress relief, I am told.

I guess not everyone masturbates every day, you need some other method to get the steam out.

Re: Coloring Craze

the oatmeal's coloring books are rather intriguing, and tempting, though i don't know where or when i could possibly work on the more interesting and intriguing one.

is there a grownup star wars coloring book? i might have to look into that...

i don't yet own any coloring books, but i think i could enjoy the heck out of it, as long as there's no toddlers scribbling all over my handiwork...

Re: Coloring Craze

I'm home caring for my 88 yr old dad. The coloring books were suggested and I spread word around and he received 4 of them for his birthday (with a set of markers/pencils).

I want stuff that activates his mind and I thought the coloring books were a great idea. He used them too, for about a month, then lost interest, hasn't touched them since. It's possible he didn't want to color at all, but felt a little obligated.

I think they are great for older folk in a number of ways, but only if they enjoy doing it, which he didn't.

I don't think coloring quite activates the mind, as much as we understand what that means. For older folk, I'd recommend it more for people like knitters or other similar activities that maybe aren't as easy anymore. woodworking, people that like to keep busy/moving, as long as they're somewhat interested in coloring/art.

it's a chicken/egg I read about recently. Do coloring books/crossword puzzles activate the mind or do people with active minds trend towards those activities?

It's probably different for each person. If you're interested in trivia and minutia, sure. If you like art, sure. But if you're more a social butterfly, you'd probably 'activate' your mind more going to a social gathering of some sort. It needs to be connected to a passion of yours or it's really just 'homework'.
