So Matz started the game by walking the leadoff hitter but has allowed nothing since and has faced the minimum thru five thanks to that lone runner getting caught stealing. Mets meanwhile have their solo HR thing thing going (Flores & Walker) for a 2-0 lead. Other than the HRs, Mets have had 5 baserunners [1 single, 3 walks, 1 error] and have had three of them erased by two GiDPs plus a pick-off/CS.

He's no longer faced the minimum. But the game has reached the point where people may want to start watching.

Gary's overdoing this pitch count thing a bit. Matz is at 95 thru 7 which is under the 15/per you'd like your guy to be. Now the young guy, the hot day, the bone spur, and the 120 pitch outing last time are all factors, but Gary is acting as if Matz is already on the high side going into the 8th rather than somewhat below (approx. 13.6/per) Obviously it's all going to come down to who the 8th progresses, both in whether he still has the no-no but also how tough the road is to get there.

btw, if it does come down to a 9th inning relief job, Reed threw just 7 pitches last night and didn't give up a long HR while JF needed 15 pitches to get through his inning and did serve one up. Just sayin'

Marlins win after a bad call. The catcher blocked the lane to end the game and it wasn't called or reversed. And the catcher juggled the ball. Other than that, the call was correct.

Just saw the replay. That's the type of call they were (wrongly) making back when that plate-blocking rule was first put in but haven't made in a while now. I couldn't tell about any bobble but, like the one where Bruce was nailed at the plate last week, they weren't going to overturn that one; catcher had the ball long before the runner got there. Hell, Yelich threw the ball about 30 feet from the infield dirt.
