Cespedes back thursday. Asdrubal Cabrera begins a rehab assignment today. Any word on Wheeler?

Cespedes will rejoin the team on Thursday, but he can't be activated until Friday (from what I understand). As for Wheeler, they're starting to say things like, "Sometimes Tommy John surgery doesn't work." That's clearly not a good sign.

Mets are saying he's seeing Andrews for his own peace of mind. He had his surgery performed by Altchek who has given assurances that it all went well and his arm is structurally sound & stuff. Anyway his meeting with Andrews is Wednesday.

Pitch around Goldschmidt. Or use the old remedy against a hot hitter (as per Jim Brosnan's book The Long Season), "hit him in the knee, then pick him off first base". Later

I can't remember when, or even IF, I've ever seen a ML runner tag two bases on a fly out. And tagging there and then having to stop at 3rd if it dropped is by far the bigger sin.

I've never even seen someone try, but it's one of the plays I hope to see before I die. Meanwhile, the Mets hit for the cycle that inning.

Not that I'm saying I predicted this or anything, but I wondered, when they first displayed the lineup, about Rivera at 3rd & Johnson at 2nd rather than the other way around as Rivera put in about twice as much 2B time in the minors as compared to his time logged at 3B But TJ has looked anything but smooth at 3rd in his short ML time.

I would have gone with Krukow and Reuschel. Probably Phil Niekro after that. On edit: Reuschel was fourth, with 97 confrontations with Keith. But Niekro was down there at 24th. I guess I'm forgetting the Braves were ever in the Western Division. Even Joe Niekro faced him more.

I missed the question when it was first asked (flipping back & forth with the 'lympics) but, when discussing the answer, Keith revealed that, upon his retirement, Elias gave him a complete printout/breakdown of every pitcher he ever faced during his career, so he had even more insider knowledge than usual on this one. Gary then asked if he carried the copy around with him in case he might happen to run into an old opponent that he could spring his stats on.

I wondered if this was something Elais did for all retiring players at that time?

My guess is Keith asked someone at SNY to get it for him. Content providers have accounts with Elias to crunch stuff for a fee and he probably got some intern or stat hound they work with to submit the request for a steak dinner. (of course, I have no freakin' idea how he got it)
