Bastardo has been a disaster. Niese is still a serviceable 4th-5th starter.

depth, maybe Niese can refind something with Warthen. Bastardo sucks and they'll probably acquire a waiver reliever anyway. Decent trade.

If nothing else it gets the club out from under any commitment for next year. Bastardo is signed for 2017, Niese for 2017 & '18 but a simple 500K buyout negates all that. oe: plus the games just got about 10 minutes/game faster without Bastardo's actions on the mound

What a nutty day. I have a nice little collection of Niese mfc cards but I'll spare you all and only share 2. I'd like to say the use of a "c" was intentional but it looks like I spelt his name that way on every 2014 card. Duh. Got it right in '15

Heard TC say in an interview that Niese's departing comments "would be addressed." Let it go, Terry. The guy was bummed about the trade and is a bit of a red ass anyway.

Getting out of the second year of the Bastardo mistake was the objective here. I was so convinced they couldn't I was basically advocating we trade Reed and promote Bastardo as a means of poor-man's reform. I almost like the idea of a chastened Niese and the return of Leah and her amazin' lucky undies to WW.

Whenever Bastardo took the mound I felt like we were done for no matter what the score. I didn't feel that way when Niese took the mound in his place last night. I know the huge lead helped but you know what I'm saying. No matter how much confidence I have left in Hawkman I know it's 10 times more than I had in Bastardo.
