You even s--t like an addict

Edgy MD

Daily News article published as an open letter from Dwight Gooden's ex-, describing his latest relapse and begging him to get his shit together.

Yeah seemingly more of the same, but I'm starting to look around me and wonder if this country has ever had so many addicts per capita, and it's driving me a little nuts.

Re: You even s--t like an addict

The NYDN has been following this like a soap opera in recent days.
Within that article are three or four links to previous pieces from the past week which started around the time he failed to meet one appointment (although skipping Benigno's radio show is a sign of a healthy mind to me), was subbed for last minute by Mookie in another, one is of Strawberry expressing worries about him, and yet another is Gooden saying that he's fine except for some 'minor health problems'.

btw, I'm not sure I want to know what an addict shits like.

That's just creepy, if he needs (more) help he needs it one on one and not laid out
there for hundreds of thousands to see.

Yeah, that's certainly a valid angle.

And to the extent that I'm guilty of piling on by sharing, I didn't know the News was getting a week out of this, for what that's worth.

Hey, the news outlets have been obsessed for about a week with those Olympic guys who got drunk, busted up a gas station and then lied about it. If it had happened in the Bronx, they would be still in the slammer instead of giving daily press conferences.
Al least we know and remember Doc. We all want to see him get the help he needs. But regurgitating old stories is unnecessary.

Except that the gist of this recent spate of stories is that this is NOT old news, that Gooden's problems are very much current.
So says his recent actions/no-shows, also his ex, his kid (Dwight Jr. in an additional story today), and so fears Strawberry.

Re: You even s--t like an addict

I certainly do not like the airing of dirty laundry via the web. But I also think maybe Doc's situation, if he's in total denial, has come to this. I imagine many routes to reach Gooden were taken before they decided they had to dress him down in public.

Last time we saw Doc I mentioned he looked gaunt.
He looks worse than gaunt here. He looks emaciated.

If he does have other health issues, serious ones, maybe now is the time for him to go public with that info.

Re: You even s--t like an addict

It seems the reason this has been getting attention is because Darryl Strawberry chose to do some kind of public intervention, using John Harper and the Daily News as his conduit.

Re: You even s--t like an addict

Strawberry's 'intervention' via the NYDN wasn't out of the blue though, it was triggered by a no-show at a joint appearance scheduled for the two, plus at least one other last minute cancellation by Doc, plus presumably previous and ongoing concerns. And now Straw's statements have been seconded and even third-ed by members of Gooden's own family.

Trending on social media:
Dwight Gooden: Former MLB Pitcher Says He Is 'Healthy' in Response to Recent Concerns for His Welfare
"I do have a drug problem," Gooden said Monday on "The Joe Piscopo Show" on WNYM-AM. Former teammate Darryl Strawberry recently said Gooden is addicted to drugs and in "horrible" condition.

Joe Piscopo has a radio show and has listeners?

Re: You even s--t like an addict

Joe Piscopo is, mysteriously enough, morning man on AM 970 The Answer, WNYM, which doesn't stand for New York Mets, so what good is it? Except for some MLB postseason spillover, it is unlistenable (home to your Michael Medveds, your Dennis Pragers, your Hugh Hewitts and so forth) and hard to pull in -- despite being on the frequency associated with the old WWDJ, flagship station of the Mets in 1969.

I assume an addict takes lots of loose, creamy wet shits that smell like burnt onions mixed with train smoke.

repeating their own recent articles.

Re: You even s--t like an addict

This is really sad.
Last winter Darryl spoke at a church very close to where I live; I asked my mom if she wanted to go and she declined. I decided not to go either only because of an uncertain winter forecast. I have kicked myself ever since.

These two guys are such a part of the Mets and are so closely intertwined.

So very different in their backgrounds and upbringing but yet teammates in an unforgettable time in Mets history. Probably thrown together socially because they were both young, black, stellar athletes in the 1980s on a team that had a surplus of stars and stories.

I loved Sid Fernandez on those 80's teams, but I know my dad loved Doc and Darryl and to think one of them is suffering now hurts me. I'm sorry if his problems have to become public (but really, we've all known for years) but I hope that the former Mrs. G and Darryl Strawberry can help this guy get his life back.
Darryl's story of hardship and then recovery brings me joy. I wish the same for Doc.

The "How Gaunt is Doc Today?" saga continues with another front page in the Daily News.

I'm hoping that none of these ghastly covers ends up winning the 2016 Tabloid Cover Derby.

I have a feeling that this year's Derby won't be very fun.

I guess it depends on how gaunt Dwight Gooden gets.
