7:10 -- Jeremy Hellickson vs Noah Syndergaard Unlike last night's starter, Hellickson has been pretty good recently (6 'Quality Starts' in his last 9) and probably their best pitcher all season: 10-7; 3.60; 1.14 This will be his 4th start against us this season, Mets have gone 1-2 Only the Dodgers, who lost to the Cubs in extras, lost lat night among the NL contenders so we're pretty much in the same place today as we were yesterday except that there's one day fewer remaining on the schedule.

I believe they may be discussing it upstairs. Ronnie was kinda 50/50 about it in the booth. Anyway, we need a W everyday. Hellickson was pretty effective in Tampa Bay. He is not a walkover. LGM

Still no outs in the Met third, about ten minutes in. It's not exactly like Hellickson's wheels are coming off unbidden... it's more that the Mets' patience seems to be steadily working the tire nuts loose.

A mighty Thor double! Noah Syndergaard had six extra base hits this season, tied for second most in Mets history in a season. Tom Seaver had seven in 1972.

Teams they may gain on tonight: Washington lost 9-4 in extras to Colorado. Miami losing 1-0 in the 8th to San Diego. St. Louis losing 3-2 to Oakland in the 8th. Teams they mayn't gain on tonight: Pittsburgh ahead 9-6 over Milwaukee in the 7th. San Francisco up 1-0 over Atlanta in the 3rd. Looking like a good day to gain some ground.

Noah Syndergaard now has 21 wins in his first 50 big league games, tying him with Tom Seaver for the third most in Mets history. The Mets have scored 76 runs in their last 12 games with 22 home runs in that span. The Mets' pitching staff now have 50 double-digit strikeout games this season, five shy of the 2015 Mets ' franchise record. Games like this one are very satisfying ... and very frustrating at the same time. After all those games of failing to get even a measly hit against non-descript pitchers and losing by a run or two. And tonight they get a bushel full on a Syndergaard night when they've got at least three straight games ahead of them with untested pitchers.
