Koehler’s actually been on a nice run in the second half of this year — 2.57 ERA in eight starts since the ASB with a .217 BAA — although he still rarely goes beyond the 6th inning. For his career this will be the 20th game and 17th start facing the Mets In all those games he’s managed a decent 4.13 ERA and 1.30 WHiP over 98 innings; only 85 hits in those 98 innings (.235 BAA) and just 9 HRs, but the 42 walks have hurt him and is probably why he rarely gets a decision (just 2-6) and why he hasn’t gone past 6 innings the last 7 times we’ve faced him. Most recently we saw him on June 4th where he gave up 3 in 6 IP in a game the Mets won 6-3, and then again on July 4th where he left after 5 innings with a 6-2 lead until the Mets got to the Fish pen for six runs and an 8-6 win.

It's hard to say this with any certainty but you have to wonder about how comfortable it is to be imported essentially to replace, or at least, interfere with the everyday routines of, the team's most veteran guy in Grandyman. Even if that's the right thing to do, it can't be easy on him or or Grandy, and you wonder how that plays out. I'm shocked they haven't given him a first baseman's glove by now. Would make an awful lot of sense.

Even including his HR's.

It was also a delight to see deGrom engaged with (and participating in!) the game, smiling and supporting his teammates in a game whose storyline began with his troubles. Others might have sulked or showed off their fake game face or something.

This is a tough crowd for relievers. If the Mets disposed of guys after bad outings as often as demanded they'd be halfway through the roster of their Columbia affiliate by now looking for replacements.
